Anzhi Makhachkala foils Chelsea and Spurs plan to sign in Willian
Chelsea have missed out on the opportunity to sign in Willian with Anzhi Makhachkala stepping closer to finalizing a transfer deal with Shakhtar Donetsk. According to reports, the Russian club is on the verge of grabbing the bragging rights for Willian, who has already agreed to make a big-money move this fall.
The transfer move will see Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur fail in their bid to acquire the services of their talented Brazilian. Both London outfits have been linked to Willian since the summer transfer window.
Willian has been hot topic in the transfer market since last summer. Chelsea were the frontrunners for Willian since Day One; therefore, it’s quite surprising to see Anzhi Makhachkala steal him from right under the nose of the Champions League winning side.
Rife speculation suggests Shakhtar Donetsk have asked Anzhi Makhachkala to come up with £34 million for Willian’s services, which means the mega-rich Russian club are only left with a couple of hours before the transfer window comes to its end.
Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are expected to make a last ditch effort for Willian, but their efforts are expected to bear no fruit. Willian, who netted against Chelsea twice in the Champions League, was keen on moving to the English Premier League.
Losing a transfer battle because of lack of funds is not something the Russian billionaire owner of Chelsea, Roman Abramovich, would allow. Therefore, the real reason behind Chelsea’s failure to sign in Willian is something other than monetary issues.
Shakhtar Donetsk can snub the transfer proposal from Anzhi Makhachkala in order to utilize Willian’s services in the Round of 16 of the Champions League.
Willian’s impressive form has attracted a number of suitors from all over Europe. The list of clubs interested in signing Willian includes Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Inter Milan.
Willian had already announced he was interested in playing for Chelsea, which is why it is quite disappointing to see Chelsea abandon the former Corinthians player.
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder has scored five goals in 16 games this season. Willian has also earned two caps for Brazil.
