Aramis Ramirez to sign with the Brewers

In need of some pop, Brewers will reportedly sign Aramis Ramirez

It hasn't been a good offseason to be a Milwaukee Brewers' fan. Star first baseman Prince Fielder is a free agent and will almost assuredly not resign with the team and reigning NL MVP Ryan Braun is facing a 50-game suspension for allegedly testing positive for a banned substance. The once-mighty Brewers offense was beginning to look more like a beer-league softball team.

Enter, Aramis Ramirez. Ramirez will reportedly sign a three-year contract with Milwaukee pending a physical. He come to the Brewers from just down the interstate in Chicago and the rival Cubs.

Last season Ramirez hit .306 with 26 home runs.

With Fielder likely gone, and Braun perhaps suspended, Ramirez will be expected to be an anchor in the middle of the Milwaukee lineup along with outfielder Corey Hart and second baseman Rickie Weeks.  Regardless of whether Braun wins his appeal, Ramirez is a nice consolation for Milwaukee losing Fielder.

This deal came out of nowhere.  I still miss that man in Pittsburgh 8 years later, excellent pick up for the Brew-crew.
