Are sporting events simply turning more into a breading ground for hate and violence?

I have taken notice of the violence and fights taken place at sporting events for the last decade or so. I know it is nothing new, but when will it actually become old? It sickens me every time I am flipping through the television or surfing the web and I come across video footage of this particular venue displaying an outbreak of chaos or hearing from a friend or coworker 'Did you see that fight during the _____ game last night?" I keep thinking of how in a few years from now when my son is old enough to ask 'Why are those people fighting?' or 'What are they running around and screaming about?' I will have to explain that evidently more people than we realize are attention wanting, built up anger possessing, passive aggressive humans who feel the need to display their hurt and pain for the whole world to watch.
Where, as a society, has our compassion and sense of brotherly love gone? I know the easy thing to say is "Well, that's just how the world is today." Well, guess what? It does not have to be that way! We have the God given right and responsibility to disallow these type of actions and to "fight" for what is right. We as Americans need to stop taking the back seat and start demanding that these type of actions will not be accepted. All I can keep thinking is what if one day I am with my family and we get caught up in the middle of mayhem and one or all of us gets hurt?
I do not know if any of these perpetrators were and and convicted, but God willing they all were. As for my opinion, they should all serve the maximum penalty for committing such a vulgar crime.
