Are the Angels Going to Be the Lakers of Baseball This Year?

The Angels quietly snatched him up and feel they now have a leg up in the race that kept them out of the playoffs last year. But with a very high payroll of Hamilton, Pujols and Wilson, are the Angels going to be like the Lakers so far this year, or more like the Miami Heat that put together three giant contracts but last year began reaping the rewards.

Unlike the Los Angeles Lakers who put together what, on paper, looks like an unbeatable team of Kobe, Pau Gasol, Steve Nash and Dwight Howard. Now, I am not sure what the problem is with this club-is Nash too old and Howard too broken and I have no idea what is going on with Gasol. But they are playing terrible and are currently sitting with a less than mediocre 9-14 record.

The Miami Heat put together the Dynamic trio of Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh and LeBron Howard which has proven after a bit of a touch-and-go start to be Championship caliber. The Lakers would need a huge reboot if that is going to happen. After a new coach very early in the season, injuries, new systems, the Lakers look old and uncharacteristically out of place right now.

Pujols came in last season from the Cardinals and had a rough first month. But he ended up with the same number of hits as 2011, almost twice as many doubles, an slight increase in RBI's and a slight decrease in his Batting Average, On-Base Percentage and Slugging Percentage. Overall, a successful season. Hamilton is getting older and has had several minor injuries the last few years. While that has not stopped his hitting abilities, can Hamilton move to a new club, new environment, a new role and see the same kind of success?

I certainly hope so. I am a Josh Hamilton fan. I feel like with the struggles he has endured, he is the constant underdog. Maybe with another "slugger" on the team in Pujols, it will take some of the pressures off of Hamilton. But who knows. I am rooting for an Angels team that can step up-more like the Magic than the Lakers. But we will just have to wait and see. I never thought I would see this Lakers team struggle this much. And I never WANTED to see the Heat win a championship.

Might as well find one baseball team to root for. The Cubs have done NOTHING this offseason-Go Angels!
