It's time for the Falcons to move on. There's very little chance Michael Vick plays for the organization again. Especially now that the local media has finally turned against him:He’s gone. Whether that means for the season or forever in the NFL is debatable, but this isn’t: No way Michael Vick ever plays again for the Falcons.It's over. Or is it a beginning?
I've long been a big Vick apologist to all those who claim he's the most overrated QB in the league. He's a better pocket QB than he gets credit, and you can't diminish the value of his feet, but perhaps it's best the Bobby Petrino Era begins with the type of QB he's excelled at coaching.
Petrino has a history of maximizing his quarterback talents. Next year's 1st pick in the NFL Draft will be Brian Brohm, who will likely give most of the credit to his former Louisville coach. Joey Harrington isn't putting fear into any NFL defensive backfield (how about that Schaub trade! Brilliant!), but he seems like Petrino type of guy.
The offensive line is likely to perform better when knowing exactly what's to happen on each play. Many of Vick's scrambles often resulted in holding calls. Warrick Dunn and Jerrious Norwood will likely improve on their impressive output from a year ago with consistent carries.
The Falcons may not be as flashy this season, but I'm finally starting to see the other side. A field position offense with a pocket passer may what Atlanta has need all along. Do you think Atlanta will improve without Vick this season? (Assuming he's gone
