When people think of the University of Miami's college sports, they think of the Football team. The program has fallen on hard times and are facing sanctions that may bury them even further off the map than they are now. Then people think of the baseball team, who has won 4 National Championships in the last 30 years.I'm not sure if people know the University of Miami has a basketball program. Well, perhaps they should start paying attention. After last night's win at Boston College, the Miami Hurricanes sit atop the ACC at 4-0, 13-3 overall. Now I know it's just January and there's a lot of conference play left, I just think this program can no longer be ignored.
Jim Larranaga is in his second season as Head Coach. For those under a rock, Larranaga was the man who led mid-major George Mason to 5 NCAA tournament appearances, including the Final Four in the 2005-06 season. If Larranaga can lead the little engine that could to the Final Four, and considering how mediocre the ACC is, who knows how far he can lead this school?
Miami already with wins over nationally ranked Michigan State, perennial contender North Carolina (albeit it down year for them) and Maryland, who just upset NC State last night. The big test for the Hurricanes will come next Wednesday on campus against top 5 Duke. Are they ready for this challenge?
I will be interested to see. Will you be watching?

Did you think George Mason would beat Michigan State, UNC and UConn in the same tournment? I didn't. I don't dismiss anything in college hoops after seeing what Larranaga did at George Mason and what Shaka Smart is still doing at VCU, or what Brad Stevens does at Butler.

This doesn't say much about the ACC,, But it won't stay this way!!!
