Brandon Mitchell's transfer clears Hogs' QB situation
In addition to Mitchell, wide receiver Keante Minor, defensive end Austin Flynn and safety Defonta Lowe are no longer with the team, reports Mike Herndon of Alabama.com.
"Through meetings with these student-athletes, a determination was made that it would be mutually beneficial for them to pursue their goals elsewhere," Bielema said in an official statement. "Brandon is on track to earn his degree this summer and utilize the NCAA graduate transfer exception to play immediately this fall. We fully support them and wish them all the best moving forward."
Mitchell’s decision to find a new program comes after the release of the Razorbacks’ post-spring depth chart, which features him as the backup behind sophomore Brandon Allen.
Bielema has stated that the position battle had not yet been won, but it was clear to Mitchell that Allen had a leg up and a few more years for development to cushion himself.
This is a win-win situation for both sides. Arkansas finds its starting quarterback with plenty of time before summer camps begin, and some school with a need for a veteran under center can vie for Mitchell.
It’s difficult to tell where Mitchell will play this fall, but if I were to speculate, I think a good fit would be Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs are looking to replace Colby Cameron and are just four hours away from his hometown of Amite, LA.
