Army's Camouflage Uniforms In The Army-Navy Game Were Really Ugly

Leave The Camouflage Off The Field, Please. There's Nothing Right With This

There are two things wrong with the above picture.

#1: That looks incredibly painful for Navy RB Greg Shinego. I'd hate to be him. His neck might be a bit sore tomorrow.

#2: The Army uniforms are absolutely hideous.

I just got out of the Marine Corps (that's me on the right, back when I was a Lcpl), so I'm familiar with camouflage. Very familiar. I wore it to work nearly every day for almost 5 years. And if there's one thing I know, it's that I would never wear it anywhere else. No cammie cargo shorts for me. No, sir. And I sure as hell wouldn't want to wear it on the football field.

Please don't see this as some sort of Army-Marine Corps pissing contest, some unpatriotic rant, or anything of the sort. This really has nothing to do with that. The fact of the matter is, these uniforms are straight up ugly. Period.

I realize they're trying to do some sort of tribute to the camouflage utilities that they wear on a daily basis in the real Army (not at West Point, really). That's cool. I have many friends who wear the uniform, like Jung Soo, a great soldier, and a better friend. But there has to be a better way to do it. Seriously. There HAS to be.

The cammies themselves are not bad looking at all. But they simply don't belong on the football field.

Let's hope we don't see this again.

For those who may have missed it, here's the Eagle, Globe and Anchor that everyone is referencing:

Definitely a classy move by the Midshipmen, acknowledging the partnership of the Navy and Marine Corps, since many Marine officers come from the Naval Academy as well.

Kudos to the Navy on what I believe was a much better job on the uniforms. But then again, I'm a little biased.

it's not about how they look its about adding to a great tradition. this game has always been about the tradtion. now there just showing pride in who they are. i have been in the corps for 8 years. i'm a Ssgt of many Marines and its good to see the new blood and the next gen when at the same time keeping the old. i do how ever love the EGA on the navy unis!! SEMPER FI

I am retired military, and enjoyed seeing Army's unis.  There is nothing wrong with them wearing camo - Army wears them at work, why not wear them on the field.  By the way...way to go NAVY !!  HOO-YAH !!

I didn't mind the camo unis at all.  I was more disgusted by their play.

can you imagine what it's like sitting next to an army veteran and a navy veteran watching this game

I got to say I actually liked them. The one that I liked the most on both uniforms was the fact that every player on both teams had different unit patches on their chest.  And as far as the Navy goes Its great to see them branded with an EGA.

I liked the helmet and pants, the jerseys were a little too plain though.  It was a great switch from the week in and week out uni's that everyone uses.

I thought they were great.  No worse than some of the uniforms that Oregon wears.  Now they are UGLY!!!  Army's uniforms just needed to be the GREEN CAMO,,,to belnd with the turf...lol!!!  Maybe they could sneak up on Navy that way.....

First off Pat, thank you for your service to our country!

That said, I'm a Navy fan but you know what?  These kids are what college football is all about.  The guys who play for Navy, Army, or Air Force are student athletes in the truest sense of the term. All of them are gonna graduate, none of them are getting degrees in phys ed, football practice is the easiest part of their day, it's likely none of them are going pro and, in return for a college education, they're all going to serve our country for at least five years in a time when we really need it.   Long story short: I don't give a damn what they wear.  And whether it's Navy, Army, Air Force, or Marine, those kids deserve our support!

I actually liked the uni's.  The symbolism was pretty cool.  Navy's jerseys were really good looking.
