Arsenal consider bid for want-away Dortmund star Mats Hummels
Arsene Wenger has been under the gun for his misfiring summer signings for most of the season, but their last couple of performances have exonerated the Arsenal manager from any blame he has been responsible for this season. After acquiring vindication from the Arsenal board and fans, Arsene Wenger is reportedly moving in for some January signings.
Recent media reports suggest Arsenal are looking to beat other interested clubs for the world class center back Mats Hummels. The odds appear to be against Arsenal since several other clubs including Manchester City, Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus are eager to sign in the young German star.
Nonetheless, Arsene Wenger’s pursuit for Mats Hummels could bear fruit. Reports from the German media suggest Mats Hummels is finally considering moving away from Borussia Dortmund. The 24-year-old center back believes Borussia Dortmund’s run of good luck has finally ended.
Mats Hummels believes Borussia Dortmund, who have won the past two Bundesliga crowns, will be overshadowed by Bayern Munich in the future. Jurgen Klopp’s is already out of the title race and have little chance of picking up the Champions League trophy. With Pep Guardiola’s arrival at Bayern Munich this summer, the German football giants are expected to become one of the most dominant force if not the most dominant force in Europe.
Arsenal have been asked to pay £17.6 million for the services of Mats Hummels, who is widely considered to be one of the best young defender in Europe. The Emirates boss Arsene Wenger understands that he needs to bolster Arsenal’s defense as soon as possible. Arsene Wenger already has three center backs in the form of Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Thomas Vermaelen.
However, the trio are quite prone to making huge mistakes. If someone was to point a finger at the reason behind Arsenal’s silverware-drought the blame would laid upon Arsenal defense. Arsene Wenger’s defense has consistently found ways of taking the blame for defeats and embarrassing exits from tournaments in the past seven years.
The frustrated Frenchman wants to end Arsenal’s trophy curse by bringing in a no-nonsense defender to the Emirates. The price tag of £17.6 million seems to be an extremely reasonable amount of money for the Mats Hummels. If Arsenal doesn’t come up with a bid soon rivaling clubs will swoop in for Mats Hummels.
