Arsenal ink long-term contracts with Wilshere, Ox, Gibbs, Ramsey and Jenkinson
Arsenal have secured a successful future by signing long-term contracts with five of their rising stars Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs, Aaron Ramsey and Carl Jenkinson.
A report published on the Arsenal’s official website provided details on the contracts of Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs, Aaron Ramsey and Carl Jenkinson. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger must have sighed with relief after seeing them put pen to paper on their new contracts. The Frenchman has lost a bunch of star players from his first team in the last couple of season.
It won’t be wrong to suggest that Arsenal are featuring a completely new team this season, after all they have lost the services of Robin van Persie, Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy, Alex Song and Cesc Fabregas.
In spite of losing a bunch of central players from his squad, Arsene Wenger has found solace from the fact that he still has plenty of talent at Arsenal. Recently the Emirates boss told reporters that Arsenal would rise to their former glory with the help of their younger generation.
Jack Wilshere, who celebrates his 21st birthday at New Year’s Eve, recently made a comeback from a long-term injury. The young England international has shown superb creative flair in the midfielder, although he has appeared in only 10 games since returning to football.
Arsenal’s 23-year-old left back Kieran Gibbs struggled to find his spot in the first-team, but with the departure of Gael Clichy the youngster has stepped up to fill the void brilliantly. Presently, Kieran Gibbs is considered one of the best full backs in the league.
The teenage Ox, who goes by the name of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, is only 19 years old. However, the youngster is showing maturity beyond his years. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain broke into Arsenals first-team this season and is expected to stay for years to come.
Aaron Ramsey grew out of favor after recovering from horrific leg break in 2010. There was little hope of him returning to football, yet the midfielder worked hard to reacquire his spot in the first-team. Carl Jenkinson, who replaced Bacary Sagna when the veteran was injured, is another success story from North London.
“We are delighted that these five young players have all signed new long-term contracts,” Arsene Wenger stated in an interview to Arsenal’s official website. “The plan is to build a team around a strong basis of young players, in order to get them to develop their talent at the club. Jack is certainly the best known, the leader of this group - but the other four players are exceptional footballers, and we're very happy that we could conclude their new deals at the same time.”
“Gibbs, Jenkinson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ramsey and Wilshere represent a core of the squad and it's an extension for a long period for all of them,” Arsene Wenger added. “I'm a strong believer in stability and I believe when you have a core of British players, it's always easier to keep them together and that's what we'll try to achieve going forward.”
