Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed he had to choose between Demba Ba and Oliver Giroud during the summer transfer window. The Frenchman unloaded a treasure chest last summer in order to bring a couple of fresh pair of legs to Arsenal.

The Emirates boss told Arsenal’s official website that he Montpellier forward Oliver Giroud and Newcastle United ace Demba Ba were very similar players. Arsene Wenger admitted it found himself sleepless at nights when he was asked to decide which striker should he sign in.

The 26-year-old France international Oliver Giroud has kicked off his debut season with Arsenal in slow fashion. Oliver Giroud has scored only six Premier League goals in the first half of the season. Meanwhile, Demba Ba has scored 13 Premier League goals in 20 appearances.

The Senegalese has been in phenomenal form for Newcastle United this season. Top notch clubs from the Premier League were after his signature since the summer transfer window, however, it was Chelsea who finally managed to sign him in January.

Chelsea completed the move for Demba Ba on Friday, but the 27-year-old striker has taken no time in settling down at the club. Demba Ba scored a brace in his debut on Saturday against Southampton in the FA Cup.

Arsene Wenger reckons he has no regrets over losing Demba Ba because the striker is too similar to Oliver Giroud. The Frenchman told reporters that he had to choose between “one or the other” and he chose last season’s top goal scorer from Ligue 1, Oliver Giroud.

“I like Demba Ba personally, he is a similar type to Giroud who we just bought. It was one or the other one,” Arsene Wenger said.

Demba Ba, who joined Newcastle United from West Ham United, after failing a medical test with Stoke City last season is expected to lead Chelsea’s attack for the rest of the season.

“Some people say he didn’t manage to pass the medical at Stoke but the last things I heard it’s quite positive for him,” Arsene Wenger told Arsenal Player. “I’m sure Chelsea will have a check on that and if they sign him it is because the problem is not as big as people say.”

It is still not clear whether Fernando Torres will pair up with Demba Ba or will the new arrival play as Chelsea’s sole striker.
