Arsene Wenger killed rumors about Arsenal offering Didier Drogba an escape route from China to the English Premier League. The Frenchman told reporters that Arsenal was far away from bringing Didier Drogba back to London.

The 34-year-old Ivory Coast international helped Chelsea the Champions League final. Didier Drogba also played an important role in Chelsea’s FA Cup victory. After becoming a Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba decided to move out of Stamford Bridge.

Therefore, Didier Drogba refrained from renewing his contract with Chelsea this summer. Instead, the veteran inked a lucrative contract offer from Shanghai Shenhua.

However, problems are starting to rise at Didier Drogba’s new club. Sources have revealed that there is power struggle going on at Shanghai Shenhua. There are also reports about Shanghai Shenhua being unable to the £200,000 a week salary of Didier Drogba.

In the midst of all this rumors about Arsenal breaking in with a move for Didier Drogba surfaced in England. After a weeklong speculation, Arsene Wenger stepped in front of media to clear out the air.

“At the moment no. In my opinion he is not free. He has just left England,” Arsene Wenger said.

It might be interesting to note that Arsene Wenger had the opportunity to sign in Didier Drogba for only £100,000 back when he was playing for Le Mans. Arsene Wenger admits he was tracking down Didier Drogba when he used to play for Le Mans and Guingamp.

“I don't know about the situation because he came out with a completely different statement. You hear he might go to Real Madrid - but then he says 'I am staying in China'. Is it just because he wants to be paid off? I don't know,” Arsene Wenger said.

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger hopes his right back Bacary Sagna will extend his stay at Arsenal. The France international desires an away move. Bacary Sagna, who broke his leg at the end of last season, is expected to play in his first match of the season this weekend.

Just like Cesc Fabregas and Alex Song, Barcelona showed interest in signing Bacary Sagna. If Arsenal end up losing Bacary Sagna then Arsene Wenger would have lost almost all of his top class players from a couple of years ago.

Arsene Wenger has lost Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy, Alex Song and Robin van Persie in the last two years. Nonetheless, Arsenal has managed to revamp their squad with a couple of good players as well.
