It seems like Arsenal Wenger will not be jobless after his celebrated tenure with Arsenal. Former Arsenal player Remi Garde reckons that the Wenger would be the ideal manager for France. The Arsenal midfielder stated that once Laurent Blanc had made his exit from Les Blues, the Gunners boss should step in for him.
There is much speculation about Blanc’s future in media. Some say he his contract will not be renewed while others suggest that the Frenchman is already looking for a club to coach. These rumors began after the former Manchester United defender had a falling out with senior member of the French Football Federation.
Garde, who played under Wenger, believes that the 62-year-old head of Emirates will make a good national coach. Garde himself is managing Lyon these days. Wenger has also been liked to Santiago Bernabeu following Jose Mourinho’s statements suggesting his return to England in the summers. This move might actually occur as Real Madrid’s president Florentino Perez has already shown his liking for Wenger.
According to his contract, Blanc is supposed to stay with the FFF until after Euro 2012 but there are rumors of him stepping down after the tournament. Recently Blanc reiterated that the only reason he was working at the post was because of his love for France. GArde, who briefly played under a French jersey reckons Wenger will be an exceptional coach for the country.
“Wenger as the new national team coach? I believe that position would suit him well,” Garde told RMC.
“He knows European football very well, and also has good knowledge of world football and the French players because he follows the league closely.
“He would definitely be an interesting option in case Blanc leaves his position. He is a very big name in the world of football.”
Wenger’s name has already been presented as a candidate to replace Blanc in case he decides to quit. After an embarrassing performance in the 2012 World Cup, the French want to make an impact when they leave for Brazil in 2014.
Wenger has great respect for Blanc. Back in 2010, when Blanc took over the Les Bleus, Wenger showed his admiration for him by describing him as a “brave” man who was trying to improve the “deteriorated level of confidence in French football”.
