Arsene Wenger warns Man City and Chelsea over making early claims on the Premier League title
Arsene Wenger issued a warning to Manchester City and Chelsea over their claims of winning the Premier League. The Arsenal manager told reporters that his new squad was “the best I have produced”.
The Frenchman’s comments were a direct dig at the players who have jumped ship from Arsenal to Manchester City in recent years. The list includes players like Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Adebayor, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy.
“As a squad, I have more quality. This is the best since I have been here,” said Arsene Wenger, who’s side picked up a 1-1 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
“When you consider the players out injured like Jack Wilshere, Tomas Rosicky and Emmanuel Frimpong, it only adds to what I believe. Yes, the best,” Arsene Wenger added.
Many analysts consider this to be a strong compliment as Arsene Wenger produced ‘the Invincibles’ in the 2003-04 season. Arsene Wenger and Co. won a double in 2002 before going onto to win the Premier League without a single defeat in 2003-04 season.
Arsene Wenger also warned Manchester City against the advancements of other Premier League clubs. The Arsenal legend said that Chelsea was a lot stronger than last year and could prove to be as the biggest obstacle in Manchester City’s campaign to defend their Premier League title.
“When we won I looked around and noticed movement at Chelsea,” Arsene Wenger said. “They signed the likes of Drogba and Essien and I thought they could be contenders, which showed when they won it the next year.
“City got off to a good start last season and that helped because they almost lost it in the end. I believe they have also looked around and noticed again Chelsea becoming strong once more and we are looking comfortable. It won’t be easy for them, that’s for sure.
“This game, because of its history, means a lot to our fans. I want them to be over the moon, when they are not I am not happy. Money does a lot for clubs but you have to accept it because you can’t fight it.”
Arsene Wenger further stated that he hoped to replicate Manchester United’s ‘golden generation’ at Arsenal. The London club is undefeated this season, with two victories and three draws.
Arsenal is scheduled to play against Coventry City in Carling Cup on Wednesday and then on Saturday they play hosts to their London rivals Chelsea. Arsenal’s next Champions League match will be against Olympiakos on October 3.
