Art Monk Gets Hall Of Fame Worthy Standing Ovation, Delivers Hall Of Fame Caliber Speech
Great Weekend To Be A Redskins Fan

Saturday night's NFL Hall of Fame ceremony is Canton, OH, gave Redskins fans several waves of chills, but it doesn't take being a Skins fan to get those.

Art Monk, his HoF induction long overdue, received a three-plus minute standing ovation when he arrived at the podium, the longest ESPN's Tom Jackson says he's ever seen at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. A deserving reward for one of the best receivers in NFL history. His numbers should have earned him the honor earlier, but it's his character and contributions to the Redskins and the NFL in other more cerebral aspects that should have made him a first ballot entry.

His speech can be heard in more detail below. Above is some snippet from each of the inductees. Fred Dean, Gary Zimmerman, Andre Tippett and Emmitt Thomas joined Monk and Green.

Mr. Monk was always a class act.  Thats coming from a Cowboy fan that was born and raised in Washington, D.C.  He was someone to look up to.  He was everything that most Wide Receivers in the league now are not...  a silent assassin..

Monk has deserved to be inducted for years now, and it's great to see that he finally got in. It's sad that he had to wait so long, but at least he got in at the same time as Darrell Green. That must have been a very special moment for both of them.

Congrats to all members of the Class of 2008.

I liked Darrell Green's speech, although was disappointed in the way ESPN cut it up for SportsCenter.  They made him sound like another selfish athlete, but when the whole speech was heard he was actually very humble.

It's a shame that you edited out the most relivent part of his speech.  Honoring God, his wife and family.   What a great example for all men!!!

Art Monk is a Legend, and I am so happy that he was finally inducted into "The Hall". He is One of the Best WR of All-Time. I especially loved watching "The Posse". Gary Clark was my favorite, Ricky Sanders was explosive, and Art Monk would catch a pass every single-game! I can't believe they waited so long!!!
