According to a report by Sporting News and 247Sports.com, Auburn president Jay Gogue has told members of the school's board of trustees that he is preparing to fire coach Gene Chizik.
The report states that Gogue intends on forming a committee to help the search for Chizik's replacement, which would follow a few short days after termination.
“In the past few weeks many of you have contacted me, and I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to share your thoughts about the football program," Gogue said in a statement on October 25. "I know your concerns are sincere and heartfelt, and I share many of them. As we do every year, the football program will be evaluated in an objective, thorough and professional process.
“For everything there is a time, and now is the time to support. The young men and women — our students — who make up Auburn University are grateful for the dedication of their extended Auburn Family. So am I.”
Two seasons ago — with Cam Newton as quarterback — Auburn went 14-0 and won the national championship. In less than two seasons since, Chizik is 10-12 and has yet to win an SEC game in 2012.
The report released only one potential coaching candidate: Louisville's offensive coordinator, Shawn Watson.

Looking at the list, it'd be hard to argue that. For sure in the BCS era.

Chizik has to be the worst coach to ever win a National title, right? By far...
