Auburn beats out Alabama for 4-star ILB
Williams, a four-star inside linebacker (247Sports) from St. Paul’s High School in Mobile, pledged to Auburn over Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide on Wednesday afternoon.
"It was mostly between Bama and Auburn," Williams told AL.com. "I took a junior day visit to Auburn and sat down and talked to coach (Gus) Malzahn for a while and coach (Dameyune) Craig, and both of them are really great guys. I felt so comfortable there. It's like a family up there, and I knew I could play for them."
Williams is a 6-foot-2, 215-pound two-time All-State selection and finished with 113 tackles as a junior last season. He does an excellent job reading the quarterback’s eyes and getting a jump on the play, which allows him to almost always put a helmet on the ball.
247Sports ranks Williams as the No. 3 prospect in the state of Alabama and No. 47 overall recruit in the nation. He becomes Auburn’s fifth commit for the class of 2014.
Williams also held offers from Florida, Ole Miss and USC, among others.
