After medical examinations and autopsy of former All-Star pitcher Mark Fidrych, it was determined that he had suffocated to death after getting his clothing entangled in a dumptruck's PTO (Power Takeoff) shaft. The incident was ruled an accident and according to the District Attorney, the case is now closed. Mark Fidrych who was 54 at the time of his death, will always be remembered as one of the most charismatic players in baseball history and a man that captured the city of Detroit in his short time in the major leagues. He was best known for smoothing out the pitcher's mound between innings and even talking to the baseball in most innings before throwing the ball. He won the American League Rookie of the Year award in 1976. During that 1976 season, he went 19-9 with a 2.34 ERA and even started the All-Star Game that season in Philadelphia. After winning 19 games his rookie season, Fidrych compiled only 10 more wins the rest of his career. Even though he had a short career in baseball, all fans who seen him pitch know that he is considered a Detroit Tiger and will always be a mainstay in their hearts. Fidrych is survived by his wife Ann and daughter Jessica.
