Tonight wraps up the NCAA Football season, with the BCS National Championship game between powerhouses Alabama and Texas. The game starts at 8:00 pm EST on ABC, and it should be a solid game between the two best teams in the country. Aside from undefeated Boise State, of course. But we won't go there for now. Let's just say Boise State has a share of the championship in my book.
64% of you picked Alabama to pick up the win. If that happens, it would mark the 4th straight year that an SEC team won it. The last non-SEC team to win? Texas, in January of 2006 in that legendary matchup against USC. Another interesting streak is that the #2 team has won 4 years in a row. Texas is that team this year, with Alabama being ranked #1.
If you're watching the game, chat it up here with us tonight. Give us your predictions, your hopes, and your always entertaining analysis. And as always, enjoy the game!

Tested? Alabama beat this season..............the number 7 team(VT), Ole Miss(10), LSU(8), Florida(1), and Texas(2)! So, using that logic, who haven't they played? I'd say they were GREATLY tested, and passed every exam with flying colors. 14-0, and 26-2 the past two seasons is stuff of greatness in the arguably toughest conference in America! Roll Tide!

Key phrase is ALMOST........................no ALMOST victories in football. Either you win with or with out your best players or you lose with or without them. At the end of the game, Alabama was 16 points better than Texas and STILL undefeated. The crystal football now resides in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Kudos to coach Brown and Texas for making it a game and playing with alot of grit. For the Ingram bashers, 116 yards, 2 TD's to go along with 109 yards, 2 TD's for Richardson, and Ingram was the offensive MVP. Kid runs like the Energizer Bunny.......he keeps going, and going, and going..............................Roll Tide!

I could see the trainers making the decision but his father deciding? If daddy had a say in it than Colt would have. Hes an adult. I think people may have been having a Sam Bradford moment.
1/10/10 | willscout | 32 respect
I agree. However, just because you are at the top of your conference doesnt automaticly mean your at the top of NCAA football. Your HS analogy actually hits home. Our local HS went undefeated this year (won district) and were CRUSHED in the first round of the playoffs as were two other undefeated teams. A "real" playoff system would be complicated. I just think if it came down to who is the best in college football versus whos the best by conference for the big games teams like TCU, Boise, Cincy etc would be out in the first rounds of elimination. Well, that is if it was designed to find the best in the NCAA instead of matching up the best of the conferences. What if the two best teams were in the same conference? How would the BCS or even a playoff system adress that? Thats all i'm saying.
1/10/10 | willscout | 32 respect
I thought they said that McCoy and his dad discussed it with the trainers and he (McCoy Sr.) decided it was best he did not return. Like I said, when you stand to gain or possibly lose that much you reevaluate your priorities. After the game they talked to Colt and he seemed to be distancing himself from the loss. I'm sure its nothing more than my imagination but it looked odd the way it all went down.

This is indeed true. It was made clear that it wasn't Colt's decision. The choice was made by Mack Brown, Colt's father, and the team doctors.
1/8/10 | tpowell25 | 1625 respect
I might be wrong, but didn't McCoy want to continue? I thought Mack Brown made the call that he couldn't play.
1/8/10 | willscout | 32 respect
Yeah probably. It just seemed strange that a guy they say is the ultimate competitor just stopped like that. Big NFL future probably changes the way you look at things

It doesnt matter if I can take that hit Im not the one claiming to be some hot shot QB. Even if it was a big hit he has to be able to take it. Do you think the monsters in the NFL are gonna go easy on him?

If it was one or two titles I would agree with you, but 6-0, 6 out of 12, 4 in a row, 5 out of the last 7, and with 4 different teams, that is pure dominance no matter what the system is.
And could just as easily be 0-6, 0 out of 12, 0 in a row, 0 out of the last 7, and with 4 different teams all going out in the first or second round of a playoff...
I'm not saying it's likely, but with what we have now, yes, that is what happened. It's not necessarily a measure of "dominance" because of a win over another team that were/are always going to be chosen to be in.

That's the point, who knows who'd they play in a real championship game? Ohio State? A rematch with Florida, TCU? Iowa, what if BYU got hot and got there; see that's the whole point, the teams would decide who was in the championship game. If you played in HS imagine winning your district or your conference but were told you weren't going to state, instead you were to play another team that wasn't going to state, but it would be a nice trip and there would be plenty of pageantry and a gift bag but no you won't play for your state championship, if you are any kind of competitor that has to burn you deep down inside.

SEC BABY!! 6-0 in BCS title games, 4 in a row, 5 out of the last 7, 6 out of twelve BCS titles, 4 different teams.
The debate is over!!
The debate would be over if they played teams other than those pre-ordained by a broken system, since most of these players were 8 or 9 they have been in championships decided by playoffs, Pee Wee, Pop Warner, High School, all other subdivisions of college football and the pros have championships decided by playoffs, but this 1 exception, Alabama might well be the best team in the NCAA, I just wish it truly had been tested.

Well, that's a wrap for me
Congrats to Alabama. As for Texas, if it can't be Pitt or Vandy, then it might as well be the Longhorns. I think Gilbert makes it back for his senior season.
And last, for Colt McCoy...Dude you have my utmost respect. You represented your school well on and off the field, and you seem pretty grounded in your personal life. I wish it could have ended in a better way. Best of luck in the NFL, and regardless of the team you end up with (even the Cowboys), I think you've earned yourself a fan.

I really do feel for McCoy though, and I hope he goes on to have a good professional career. Tough player, and a good one, and it's a shame he wasn't able to play through it.

I'm totally begrugged for bringing up his name, but seriously, of the QB's
on the Heisman line this year, McCoy Gerhard and TT, who was the big time performer?
And, who won their game. Alabama proved a better team in the SEC final,
but TT can play some serious college ball, and you would have to consider
him to be a clutch pressure player.

Just seems odd, they showed the play from several angles. Nobody really hit him and he was actually sitting on top of a Bama player when it was over. He never hit the turf, gets up and starts walking around then suddenly his shoulder is hanging. After halftime the statement from the trainers was everything negative and probably a strain. Just seems wierd. OOOOH touchdown BAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, it wasn't a "football" type hit that you might think. But, the shoulder is a fragile area, and the right hit at the wrong angle is all it takes. As far as the x-ray being negative, I'm not a medical expert, but wouldn't it take an MRI instead to determine muscle/tissue/ligament damage?

Another potential threadjack...I know the SEC was terrible this year (as far as officiating goes). But that Pitt Cincy game was about the only time I've been happy to see the officials get stuff thrown at them as they left the field

There's nothing hollow about the win. That's foolish to even think that. Alabama knows they were the better team, regardless. And anyone watching the game could see that as well. With or without McCoy.
1/7/10 | CowboyFan1 | 74 respect
Sad to say we all here in Texas saw the game end with Colt. Tide will go onto win...rather a hollow win,not against our best;but a win is a win.
1/7/10 | celticfc411 | 51 respect
and, like I said, :"IF" Colt wasnt out, things would be different ~sighs!
We can completely hijack this thread with the TCU/Boise/playoff thing. But I agree
And I think over time there's going to be some Alabama fans wishing McCoy never got hurt. Because now, no matter what, it's a "what if" game, and with a player of that importance, the questions will never disappear

Can anyone explain to me on the 1st drive of Texas'..why, with offsetting penalties, (illegal formation on UT,Personal foul on Bama) the ball was moved back to the 3 or 4 yardline from the 1 yardline?

Texas is better than Florida. I don't know if Texas is better than Alabama. But I do know that Texas comes into this thing riding the wave of luck, and Alabama just went postal on the nation's top team in a de facto national semifinal. That's the setup for Holtz's argument.
