30 players to know in 30 days. They may not be national names right now, but they're already Big Men On Campus and will be big this fall. As part of our ongoing College Football Preview I'll be featuring the players you need to know this season ...

Going to start small today, with the next MAC QB to make a splash in the NFL.

QB Nate Davis (So.) - Ball State

How often have you witnessed a true freshman quarterback single-handedly pull off an upset at The Big House in Ann Arbor? Nate Davis didn't pull it off, but he was awfully close.

Against Michigan last November, Davis went 18-34, 250 yards and led the Cardinals near the goal line against the Wolverines in the final seconds, just falling short 26-34. Now a sophomore, if Ball State's QB gets another opportunity like that, he'll likely succeed.

Last year, the true freshman threw for 18 touchdown passes against 8 interceptions. Impressive total for a kid who was under center for Bellaire High School the fall prior.

Games to Watch

Sep 22 - @ Nebraska
Oct 27 - @ Illinois
Nov 3 - @ Indiana

Ball State isn't expected to be a MAC contender just yet, but they'll likely pull off a few upsets with Nate Davis under center. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Cardinals pull off one of those two Big Ten Road games.
