Baltimore Ravens sign DT Chris Canty
The Baltimore Ravens swooped in on the opportunity, by signing defensive tackle Chris Canty on Tuesday while visited the team’s facility today. The moves allows the Baltimore Ravens to bolster a defense that lost several key pieces with Ray Lewis announcing his retirement at the end of the 2012 season, Paul Kruger heading to the Cleveland Browns and Dannell Ellerbe landing the Miami Dolphins.
Chris Canty posted a picture of his signed contract on the Instagram following the visit. The deal is reportedly worth $8 million over three years, with $2.8 million guaranteed.
Since being released in a salary cap move by the New York Giants over a month ago, Chris Canty has made several visits – including to the Tennessee Titans, Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers. While the Green Bay Packer reportedly had serious interest in the free agent Chris Canty, team doctors won’t sign off on him after his physical.
The 30-year-old Chris Canty spent the past four seasons with the New York Giants. Last season, Chris was initially listed on the physically unable to perform following offseason surgery and was limited to only nine games. The New York Giants compensated Chris Canty’s loss by signing defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins (who was retained this week) and re-signing Shaun Rogers.
Chris Canty finished 2012 with 26 tackles and three sacks. HE produced career-highs of four sacks and 48 tackles in 2011.
Since being selected in the fourth round of the by the Dallas Cowboys, Chris Canty has amassed 191 tackles and 19 sacks while starting 96 games during the past eight seasons split between the Cowboys and the New York Giants,
