Barcelona captain Carles Puyol has warned his side about threat AC Milan poses to their Champions League dream. Carles Puyol believes the Italian football powerhouse deserve respect as they are capable of producing upsetting results for Barcelona.

The Barcelona born and bred player admits he has a special place in his heart for AC Milan. While acknowledging the dangers of their trip to San Siro, Carles Puyol confessed that Barcelona coursed through his veins yet he had a great deal of respect and love for AC Milan as well. The 34-year-old Spain international also declared that AC Milan are his second-favorite team.

Carles Puyol has come up with such statements just hours before Barcelona fly to San Siro for the first leg of their Champions League round-of-16 clash against AC Milan. The center back also confessed that if he were to move out of Barcelona he would love to join AC Milan.

“Milan are a team that I love,” Carles Puyol told reporters in a press conference a day before the mouth-watering Champions League clash. “They are my second team. I have always said that if I left Barcelona I would like to go to Milan.”

AC Milan just recently picked up form and added Mario Balotelli to their attack. The Blaugrana skipper, Carles Puyol believes his side will have to watch-out for the changes in AC Milan’s squad, especially their front-line. The veteran explained that away games were always tough games and playing against AC Milan at the San Siro was one of the biggest challenges.

“Milan are a good team that have made many changes,” Carles Puyol continued. “They have improved a lot recently and will play us at a great time. We respect them, especially considering the history they have. The danger from them is very clear – they have some great players. This year they have begun a new project and are growing all the time.

“Everyone at Barcelona knows that it is a complicated tie. If we don't do things the right way, we will go out. We are not afraid of just one player of theirs, but having said that, Stephan El Shaarawy is playing well at the moment.”

AC Milan are currently positioned third in Serie A, six points away from Napoli and 11 points away from Juventus. On the other hand, Barcelona have all but won the La Liga title. The Catalan giants have a 12-point lead over Atletico Madrid and a 16-point lead over archrivals Real Madrid.
