Barca star Lionel Messi set to return against Bayern Munich
Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas claims teammate Lionel Messi is doing well in the training.. The Spaniard reckons Lionel Messi should be back in the first-team before the first-leg of the Champions League semifinal against Bayern Munich.
Cesc Fabregas was given Lionel Messi’s false nine role in the second-leg of the quarterfinal against Paris Saint-Germain. The 25-year-old was unable to record impressive form, which is why an injured Lionel Messi was asked to fulfill his duties once again.
The former Arsenal skipper told RAC 1 radio that Lionel Messi’s absence from the team clearly showed how badly Barcelona missed their prodigal Argentinean goalscorer.
“[Lionel Messi] is working well,” Cesc Fabregas said. “He is a player with a lot of character and personality and he will be ready for the game. We feel more secure on the pitch when he is there, as the game against PSG showed. What he gives us nobody else can.”
Cesc Fabregas also declared that his side wasn’t afraid of another El Clasico in the Champions League final. The Spain international claims he would directly place Real Madrid against Barcelona in the final if he had the opportunity to do so.
“I would sign up for a Real Madrid-Barcelona final,” Cesc Fabregas added. “It would be a very important game in the history of football. But first we must think about the semi-final against Bayern. It will be really tough. Colossal.”
The semifinal between Barcelona and Bayern Munich will depict a picture of Pep Guardiola’s past and future. Pep Guardiola, who will join Bayern Munich after serving Barcelona for four years, has become one of the reasons behind the hyped up environment before the semifinal battle.
“Guardiola is a person who I admire,” said Cesc Fabregas upon being questioned about Pep Guardiola.
“He was the idol of my childhood. I always tried to copy what he did on the pitch. Last season everything did not always go well with him, but the truth is he, with Tito [Vilanova], made an effort so that I could return to Barcelona.”
