Manchester United are still in pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas, but teammates Gerard Pique an Andres Iniesta are confident their compatriot will remain at Camp Nou beyond this season.

In spite of having their third bid rejected, Manchester United manager David Moyes is still hopeful of signing in Fabregas. The Old Trafford boss refuses to accept a pessimistic approach towards the topic, although Fabregas himself has given no inclination about moving to Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has announced that Fabregas is not for sale. The 26-year-old Spain international has been Manchester United’s top transfer target since the beginning of the transfer window.

Interestingly, Fabregas also shot down the possibility of a transfer during the Confederations Cup in Brazil earlier this summer. The Spanish midfielder has refused to make any statements since returning to Barcelona’s preseason camp.

According to some reports, Fabregas is using this opportunity to grab a better contract from Barcelona. Fabregas still has three more years on the contract he signed in after moving from Barcelona, which means the La Liga champions have the upper hand over the Spain international.

In a press conference ahead of Barcelona’s friendly against Thailand XI in Bangkok, Pique was adamant about Fabregas staying put at Barcelona.

“He always looks very relaxed to me,” said Pique, who used to be at Manchester United. “It is normal that a player of his quality has offers on the table but I can confirm that he is staying. It is his life's dream [to play for Barca], and I am very happy that he stays. It never seemed to me that he had any doubts.”

Reportedly, Fabregas has shown concern over his long-term at Barcelona and the club’s inability to offer him more first-team opportunities, the same problem which caused Thiago Alcantara to move to La Blaugrana to Bayern Munich.

Iniesta, who is destined to play in the heart of the midfield allowing the €57 million star Neymar to play on the left wing, is sure Fabregas will not only have  spot in the team, but will stay at Barcelona.

“For me he is unquestionable, because I always think that my team-mates are the best,” Iniesta said. “Healthy competition between ourselves makes us improve each day. Cesc has performed to a very high level for us. I am convinced that he’ll be doing that again this season.”
