It appears as if Manchester United and Barcelona will be part of transfer battle for the ‘new Cristiano Ronaldo’ this fall. Barcelona are poised to swoop in for the Manchester United transfer target James Rodriguez.

The Colombian winger is being linked with away moves to a couple of European football giants, but Manchester United and Barcelona are on top of the list. Manchester United were the first to approach FC Porto with interest in signing James Rodriguez.

Since then a long list of clubs have approached the Portuguese outfit for the rights to James Rodriguez. The list includes Juventus, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Sources have revealed that Barcelona scouts have been regularly attending FC Porto games this season. Meanwhile, Manchester United are believed to be at the table in order to negotiate a move away for James Rodriguez.

The transfer window is still more than a month away. However, Manchester United seeks a gentleman’s agreement on the purchase of James Rodriguez from FC Porto and the player.

Manchester United have already tabled a £36 million bid for James Rodriguez. The 21-year-old Colombia international is eager to move into Old Trafford and play under the wings of Sir Alex Ferguson, the man who created the legend of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Manchester United will be making room for James Rodriguez by selling of their out of favor Portuguese winger Nani. A deep rift between Sir Alex Ferguson and Nani has seen the player with a permanent role on Manchester United’s bench. Manchester United hope to extract at least £30 million by selling off Nani.

Purchasing James Rodriguez for £36 million is substantially more than what Manchester United paid Sporting Lisbon for the services Cristiano Ronaldo in 2003. Due to that and a dozen more reasons James Rodriguez will have huge boots to fill at Old Trafford.

In Spain, Tito Vilanova hopes to add some attacking flair to his defensive style of play by bringing in James Rodriguez. The young Colombian star is advised to stay away from Barcelona as it doesn’t compliment his playing style and he will be overshadowed by the likes of Andres Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas, Pedro, Cristian Tello and Thiago Alcantara.
