After a tiring and futile summer, Chelsea were given new signs of hope in their pursuit of the prodigal Spanish midfielder Isco last week. However, Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta took it upon himself to kill Chelsea’s joy.
The 28-year-old Spain international put a big dent in Chelsea’s dream of acquiring Isco by suggesting the young midfielder should join him at Barcelona. Isco has handed in his transfer request to Malaga, therefore a summer move is in the books already.
Chelsea prepared a delegation to negotiate a deal for the 20-year-old midfielder last summer, but Malaga’s asking price forced the Champions League winning club to back out from the race. The summer and following winter transfer window ended with Isco going nowhere, which is why Chelsea attempted to take advantage of this situation by proposing a mutually beneficial deal.
However, the word got out and now every football powerhouse in Europe is after Isco once again. Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona are potential suitors that have been linked with Isco over the past six months.
Barcelona are reportedly ready to break their banks for the young Spain international, but Isco wants to review all of his options before he commits to the Catalan cause. Andres Iniesta hopes Isco will make the right decision, which according to him is joining Barcelona.
Malaga have no option, but to sell Isco because of financial debts, which is why they will be forced to sell him at a cut-price. This is why Chelsea are so interested in acquiring Isco. More importantly, Chelsea need a replacement for the aging midfielder, Frank Lampard.
The legendary No. 8 was on the verge of exiting Stamford Bridge this season, but it appears as if Frank Lampard might stay put for another season. Isco is seen by many as the future of Chelsea’s midfield. Well, Andres Iniesta would obviously disagree.
In an interview to Catalunya Radio, Andres Iniesta heaped praise upon Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos and Isco. The Barcelona born and bred player said that he would like to see players such as Isco emerge from the Barcelona ranks.
“I’ve always liked Sergio Ramos,” Andres Iniesta said. “He always seems like an amazing player. And I like to look at the upcoming players, such as Isco.”
Isco has been in remarkable form this season. The former Valencia player has scored 10 goals in 28 appearances for Malaga this season. Isco plays like Andres Iniesta in the midfield, but has hunger for goals and going forward like Frank Lampard, which is why Barcelona and Chelsea are fighting for his signature.
