Barcelona earn a controversial win over AC Milan in Champions League
Barcelona has confirmed their place in the semi final stage of Champions League after a convincing yet controversial victory over AC Milan. The quarterfinal contest saw the Catalans take the lead which was soon afterwards equalized by the Rossoneri. Later on, two more goals took the Spanish football giants to a score line of 3-1, which remained the same till the end of the match.
It was a Lionel Messi showdown once again. The Argentinean prodigy scored two notorious goals in the first of the match which also happened to be his 50th and 51st goals in the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Milan was left ruing over the controversial spot kicks. The Italian outfit gave Barcelona a tough night, but at the end of it the task of defeating Barcelona at Nou Camp was just too hard to achieve.
Barcelona scored their first goal in the 11th minute when Lionel Messi converted the first spot kick into a goal. The penalty was given after Luca Antonini clipped the heels of a striker in the box.
AC Milan stepped on the pedal and increased attacks on Barcelona and soon enough found an equalizer. Midfielder Antonio Nocerino put the Italians in front on away goals.
The lead AC Milan had acquired didn’t last long as the veteran Italian international Alessandro Nesta was controversially booked for a penalty following a tug on Sergio Busquets’ shirt. Messi was again came to face Christian Abiatti and once again placed the ball in the back of the net.
Later, in the second Andrei Iniesta scored Barcelona’s third goal to put an ocean between the Italians and Spaniards.
Barcelona will now play against Chelsea or Benfica in the semifinal stage. However, everyone is hoping for an El Clasico which is realistically possible after Real Madrid defeat APOEL. Bayern Munich has also qualified for the semifinal stage. They could play against Real Madrid for the chance of playing in the finals.
