Barry Zito Reaches A Whole New Level of Suck
4/23/08
Walking off the MLB action every day ...Before I zeroed in on my Spurs hatred, I thought we might see Barry Zito pick up a big first win of the season against Brandon Webb.
Worst. Contract. Ever. was spotted a surprising 3-run early lead on the Diamondbacks, a lead the dwindled to 3-2, with two out in the top of the 4th. A big bat came to plate in the form of Webb, a career .108 hitter.
The result? You can probably figure it out. Webb crushed a Zito "fastball" for a two-run double that would be all the MLB's first five game winner would need. Webb is now 5-0. Zito 0-5.
I'm not even sure if Zito would succeed in AAA ball right now. Can we safely put him in Jon Koncak territory?
Manager Bruce Bochy was asked rhetorically what he thought of Z's performance: "It was not a good night, not a good outing for him. I'll leave it at that." Translation: He f-ing sucks. Diamondbacks 5, Giants 4.
What, no homer Chase? Weak. Utley still drove in two more RBIs on a 2-for-5 night, but the big bat belonged to Pat Burrell who cleared the bases with a 3-run double in the top of the 9th.
Jacoby Ellsbury is kind of fast Tied 6-6 in the bottom of the 8th, the kid was on first and turned a Dustin Pedroia double into an easy score. He touched third before Vlad even got his hand on the ball. Oh, and Ellsbury also launched two solo home runs. The legend grows. Sox 7, Angels 6.
Ronny Woo-Woo! After driving in two-runs on a clutch hit Monday night, back up infielder Ronny Cedeno took some slack for saying "We're thinking about the World Series," on April 21st but with the ways he's shockingly hitting, he can say whatever the hell he pleases. ONEDEC (because he's turned it around) crushed a grand slam in another big win over New York. Cubs 8, Mets 1.
15 runs ought to buy C.C. a win Sabathia's ERA was 13.50 heading into yesterday's start, not quite up to par with his Cy Young label, so Cleveland figured that'd have to score 15 runs just to play it safe. Well done. Fortunately, C.C. was dealing his old stuff to the tune of 11 strikeouts and just one earned run. Dropping the ERA down to a still absurd 10.12. Indians 15, Royals 1.
