Battle of NFL Experts Week 6
10/13/06
We're conducting a science experiment to find the real sports experts. Every week we're entering the "expert" picks published on the major sites. We also let the average fan enter their predictions. FanIQ tracks the results and reveals the"real experts" on Mondays. In order to properly grade the experts, we evaluate in two categories - picking straight up winners and versus the spread.
The FanIQ Consensus (51-22) continues to boast a 70% winning percentage coming off a 13-1 Week 5. Leading all experts so far this season is ESPN Insiders' Seth Wickersham (53-20, pictured). Following closely behind is Mike Golic (50-22, ESPN) and Dan Shanoff (48-24). It may be Friday the 13th, but don't be afraid to take on the experts. This week's breakdown below:
Fans and Experts agree on the winner in 12 of 14 games (click on game for breakdown):
Bengals over Bucs
Cowboys over Texans
Falcons over Giants
Eagles over Saints
Seahawks over Rams
Redskins over Titans
Steelers over Chiefs
Jets over Dolphins
Chargers over 49ers
Broncos over Raiders
Bears over Cardinals
Here's where we differ:
Carolina Panthers at Baltimore Ravens
Experts Pick: Panthers (61%)
Experts Picking the Ravens: Chris Mortensen (ESPN, pictured), Ron Jaworski (ESPN), Peter King (Sports Illustrated), Charles Robinson (YahooSports), Chris Collinsworth (NFL.com), Dan Pompei (Sporting News)
Fans Pick: Ravens (57%)
Everyone overreacted to the Ravens loss in Denver. Questioning Steve McNair ... the defense ... the running game. It was simply a difficult game in bad weather. Baltimore was going to lose at least a game this season, and a loss to the Broncos is certainly not bad. Returning home to face the Panthers is a tough test and the experts like Carolina. Due to the loss, you'll Baltimore step up their defense even more limiting any thoughts of an aerial attack. DeShaun Foster and DeAngelo Willams aren't capable of winning a ground battle against Ray Ray and Co. My Pick: Ravens
Buffalo Bills at Detroit Lions
Experts Pick: Lions (61%)
Experts Picking the Bills: Sean Salisbury (ESPN), Jason Cole (YahooSports), Vinnie Iyer (Sporting News), Chris Carter (YahooSports), Chris Collinsworth (NFL.com), Vinnie Iyer (Sporting News, pictured)
Fans Pick: Bills (60%)
Vinnie "Dunce" Iyer is picking the Bills. Need I advise you any further? In all seriousness, I don't think the Lions are THAT bad. They're not good, but certainly capable of putting points on the board. J.P. Losman is more than willing to turn the ball over, so as long as Kitna can avoid the stupid pass the Lions should be in good shape. Home field and hunger for the first win provide the needed intangibles. My Pick: Lions
