Battle of the College Football Experts Week 8

10/19/06 in NCAAF   |   CriticalFanatic   |   respect

We're conducting a science experiment to find the real sports experts. Every week we're entering the "expert" picks published on the major sites (ESPN Gameday picks are also included). We also let the average fan enter their predictions. FanIQ tracks the results and reveals the"real experts" on Mondays.

It does seem like a down weekend in college football, but hopefully you're up to taking on the experts. Of those picking just the top 25, YahooSports Terry Bowden (118-13) continues to lead with the best winning percentage. Among the pundits picking ALL games, Sportsline's Harmon Forecast (244-57) continues to display impressive accuracy. This week may be missing the blockbuster, but there are plenty of high quality conference match ups. See who the experts are picking below:Expert/Fan Leaderboard

Fans and experts overwhelmingly agree on these big games:
Michigan over Iowa
Tennessee over Alabama
Texas at Nebraska

Here's where it gets a little more interesting:

Georgia Tech at Clemson
Experts Pick: Clemson (87%)
Experts Picking GT: Darrin Darst (Sportsline, pictured), Tom Dienhart (Sporting News)
Fans Pick: Clemson (68%)

It's probably the safe bet to go with the home team and the one with the best best running game. But I'm going to side with Darst and Dienhart. Clemson has a powerful ground attack, but Georgia Tech might have the most underrated defense. The Yellow Jackets also possess the best player on the field and he'll make the big play. My Pick: Georgia Tech

Rutgers at Pittsburgh
Experts Pick: Pittsburgh (67%)
Experts Picking Rutgers: Darrin Darst (Sportsline), Jason Horowitz (Sportsline), John Harris (CFN), Matthew Zemek (CFN), Steve Greenberg (Sporting News, pictured)
Fans Pick: Pittsburgh (53%)

Rutgers is a nice story and all, but they remain the most overrated team in the country. Given their schedule, a team like Purdue would be undefeated right now. Time to come back down to Earth Scarlet Knights. My Pick: Pittsburgh

Boston College at Florida State
Experts Pick: Florida State (73%)
Experts Picking BC: Dennis Dodd (Sportsline, pictured), Matthew Zemek (CFN), Steve Greenberg (Sporting News)
Fans Pick: Florida State (68%)

Must win game for the Seminoles if they still have any hope left of playing in the ACC Championship. Combine that with playing at home and this should be an easy win, but unfortunately Florida State's offense has made winning difficult. I always feel comfortable going against Steve Greenberg ... My Pick: Florida State

Games the experts and fans disagree:
NC State at Maryland Experts - Maryland 71% / Fans - NC State 51%
Texas Tech at Iowa State Experts - Iowa State 57% / Fans - Texas Tech 71%
