Bayern star Schweinsteiger gives special respect to Man Utd’s Giggs
Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger claims Ryan Giggs has provided Manchester United with “remarkable” services since the day he donned their jersey. The Germany international also revealed that he was happy with his stay at Bayern Munich and had no intention of searching an exit route.
Just like Giggs’ career at Manchester United, Schweinsteiger was bred up in Bayern Munich’s Youth Academy before rising through the ranks to enter the squad and then the first-team and later become an icon at the German football powerhouse.
The 29-year-old center midfielder, who has played in 462 games for Bayern Munich, told France Football that he has great respect for special one-club men. The list topped with the names of Giggs and Roma forward Francesco Totti.
Schweinsteiger said that these players had shown exceptional loyalty to their clubs and despite their age were playing at the “highest level”. Schweinsteiger further added that just like them, his love for his club Bayern Munich remained as strong as ever.
“Those two players are incredible. At 40, Giggs is still playing at the highest level. He's remarkable,” Schweinsteiger said. “There's also Daniele De Rossi at Roma. All those players have never left their first club. That's really rare these days," Schweinsteiger said, adding his love for Bayern remains intact.
“I'm proud. Going each morning to the Sabenerstrasse [training ground] still brings me as much joy. When I go into the Bayern dressing room, I'm happy. It's nice to go to training where I know everyone, my teammates, the stewards, the cleaners or the employees. It's only when I'm injured or I'm in pain that I'm in a bad mood.”
Schweinsteiger, a.k.a. the “Football God” in Bayern Munich circles, revealed that he had the chance to leave the Champions League winning side “several times”, but somehow at the end of the day “it was always the heart that decided” and its decision was to stay at Bayern Munich.
Schweinsteiger also admitted that Bayern Munich had to clear out his reservations about success in Europe before he extended his contract in February 2011. Schweinsteiger said that he wanted to make sure Bayern Munich had the same ambitions as he did before he further committed his future to them.
The German football icon said that he was happy to see that Bayern Munich had successfully been able to acquire all the objectives set by them. The treble-winning side will be aiming for another treble this season.
