So, about that Baylor team I mentioned you should start paying attention to? If you chose tonight to get started, you were a winner - -although unfortunately this wasn't on national TV.The Bears, fresh off their first conference road win in 25 games, went into College Station and knocked off 16th-ranked Texas A&M ... in 5 OT. The score at the end of regulation was 64-64. Final score: 116-110. Officially the longest game in Big XII history.
Having gone through what the Baylor program has had to go through over the last five years, having five players foul out and battling through exhaustion in the fifth overtime was hardly adversity.
A few fun stats:
- Guard Curtis Jerrells (Baylor) was 20-for-24 at the stripe. 36 total points.
- The aforementioned, five players on Baylor fouling out. A&M had three of their own.
- 57 total three point shots attempted, 106 free throws and 191 field goals.
- A&M had a 14 point lead at one point.
Huge, huge win for Baylor. That can't be understated. The win gets what was a program on life support back into the Top 25 in both polls and at 16-2 had a very, very good chance to make the NCAA tournament. 5 years ago they were hoping to field a full team. More on this game tomorrow once some video comes out.
