Beijing 2008 Olympic Games What To Watch NBC Schedule Day 12 Live Thread
Olympic Live Tape-Delayed Goodness: BMX Makes Its Not-So-Long Awaited Olympic Debut
If you don't think NBC is hurting now that Michael Phelps is out of the pool and getting text messaged by Lindsay Lohan, then you obviously haven't been paying attention. In some bizarre move to appeal to the under-12 crowd, NBC is showing the live debut of Olympic BMX bike racing this evening instead of some actual worthwhile event. Not really sure who in the hell approved that, but bad decision.

Just going by personal opinion, it seems like people either burned themselves out on Phelps or simply care less about track and field this year. Which there's nothing wrong with. I remember in the past when there was little reason to pay attention to swimming, what with guys like Carl Lewis and Michael Johnson competing in track and field.

Anyway, aside from BMX (radical, brah!) everything else - women's and men's gymnastics, track and field, diving - is tape-delayed.

Special Note: Team USA is playing Australia at 8am EST Wednesday morning. We will have a live thread for that, so bring your coffee.

Tonight's Primetime Olympic Schedule

8pm to 12pm
- Coverage of men's BMX cycling (LIVE ET/CT). New to the Olympic program, the unpredictable racing event features steeply banked turns, big jumps and huge crashes. In gymnastics, it's the final night of individual event competition (men's parallel and high bars; women's balance beam). Also, track and field, finals in women's 400m, 100m hurdles, and men's 1500m. Plus, the men's springboard diving final.

-----------------------

Tonight's Insomniac Olympic Schedule

NBC

12:30am to 2am - Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers play semifinal beach volleyball; quarterfinal BMX cycling; track and field: high jump, discus, women's 5000m qualifying.

CNBC

12am to 2am - Softball semifinal: USA vs. Japan. The U.S. is seeking a fourth-consecutive Olympic title. Japan has earned medals at the past two Games.

USA

2am to 2:30am - The women's 10k open water swimming marathon. This event, which takes place outdoors at the Beijing Games rowing basin, is making its Olympic debut.

2:30 to 6:30am
- Men's basketball quarterfinal games: Spain vs. Croatia; Lithuania vs. China (LIVE ET/CT). Also, canoe/kayak semifinals (LIVE ET/CT).

You should embrace the youth into this world that mystifies our lives give them a chance to enjoy what they like to see on TV for once.  You think they enjoy watching fencing and weightlifting.  Im sure they enjoy watching there favorite million dollar basketball stars beat up on other countries.  I would think that having something they like is great and shows interest in them, and extreme sports are amazing.  Maybe you should go to your local BMX track and support your young and old persons alike, you just might find someone your own age racing, you may even work with them.  Stop being a simpleton, if you dont like it im sure you can find "The Sound of Music" to watch...

The author does not have a clue. The average age group is 12- 35... In the NBL the oldest rider is 82, youngest rider is 2.  Average beginner is 4-7 years old, those riders usually stick with the sport through their twenties. It is an extremely hard sport to master, requires skill, a clear head (stoners stay home) and you must be in good health. Entire families participate and regardless of the authors narrow minded view point the sport is growing. And unlike other sports ( duh... fuutball) no one sits on the bench. Between my stepson and son we have participated in: Baseball (5 years), Football (3 years), youth wrestling (2 years), Soccer (5 seasons), Equestiran competition (2 years English, 1 year Western) and BMX (9 years).   By far BMX has been the most rewarding, fun and beneficial of all of them.  This is an individual sport, you must meet your own goals by hard work and personal performance, you don't get a gold ring for sitting on the bench.  To learn more, google NBL BMX or ABA BMX.  Also, if you are interested in the Olympics, USA has a great shot at taking Gold, maybe more.

I know you can't get enough men in speedos, but you need to check the facts on BMX.  Did you know there isn't a 12 year old GIRL OR BOY in the country that you could even hang with around a world class BMX track?  Now, with that the case, don't you think it's a little silly to be popping off about the Elite men doing 40 mph down a 38 foot tall starting hill handlebar to handlebar for a Gold medal?  That's the kind of competition that gives me a bulge, not wet guys in speedos, live.
