Olympic Live Tape-Delayed Thread Goodness: Lots Of People You Don't Know Competing
8/21/08

Tonight is full of tape-delayed goodness! But don't worry, almost none of it was important enough to wind up in a post today, so I wouldn't worry too much. It might as well be live, even though everything happened about 15 hours ago.

Anyway, tonight is full of track and field goodness, such as the hurdles, the triple jump, and a bunch of other events that are fun to watch, even though I have no clue who's competing in them.

There's also some diving, and last, but certainly not least, we have even more beach volleyball (this time it's the men). Americans Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser go for the gold, and for those of you who think beach volleyball shouldn't be a sport, I say shut your damn mouth. We rule this sport with an iron fist. I say more beach volleyball! More gold! Plus, more gold will help our economy.

Tonight's Primetime NBC Schedule

8pm to 10pm - With defending Olympic champion Liu Xiang competing, the men's 110m hurdles final was to be a defining moment for China during the Beijing Games. But Liu - widely revered in his country - withdrew during an early-round heat because of a lingering right heel injury, leaving the pursuit of gold to others.  Also, the men's 400m, men's triple jump, women's 200m, and Day 1 of the decathlon. Plus, women's diving finals.

10pm to 11pm
- It's the women's 10m platform diving gold medal final, and Laura Wilkinson is used to being the underdog. Eight years ago in Sydney she came back from eighth place to win an unexpected title while competing with broken bones in her foot. Now, at age 30, the Texan plays the underdog again, this time behind two Chinese teens half her age. Also, coverage of marquee events from track and field.

11pm to 12pm
- Americans Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser face Brazil's Marcio Araujo and Fabio Luiz Magalhaes in the men's beach volleyball final (LIVE ET/CT).

What the hell is this 50K walk? This has to be the most unathletic "sport" I have ever seen in my entire life. It is something like 30-40 guys walking around like they have a wedgie that they are trying to get out by walking it off. Surprisingly enough, the stadium is basically empty.
