Being Steely McBeam Will Make You Hit The Bottle Hard. Real Hard.

You may remember the Steelers' curious choice to make gay porn star Steely McBeam their official mascot. Yes, the mascot who looks like a member of the Village People and carries around a massive steel beam. Naturally, Steely's selection didn't go over real well with fans. Here were some more SFW reactions after he was named back in August.I’ve never, ever been embarrassed to say that I’m a Steelers fan.

I’m totally pissed off and my pissed-offedness is a totally righteous one. What the HELL were these people thinking? The Pittsburgh Steelers are the paragon of no-frills, no-excuses, I’m-gonna-smash-your-head-in-all-the-live-long-day-football. Which pretty much sums up the city’s attitude toward, well, everything. And we have a frickin’ mascot called STEELY MCBEAM??
So yeah, it didn't go over well. But now we've learned that playing the mascot didn't go over very well either.
Today it was revealed - thanks to Deadspin - that Kenneth Hahey, 24, who was one of the people who dressed up as Steely, was charged with drunken driving after he was stopped in Pittsburgh in January. His blood alcohol level was .166, according to a police affidavit. That's, uh, kinda high. After all, Tony LaRussa was only at .093, and he passed out on the wheel. Hahey has since been released by the Steelers.
This incident was covered up by the Steelers until now, I assume to prevent the whole Steelers fanbase from using this as a way to get rid of Steely. Despite the arrest, McBeam and his glistening steel rod will regrettably be kept on.
But at least we now know what acting like a gay porn mascot does to a man. It makes him drink, heavily and often. And honestly, I can't blame him.
