Best AFL Throwback Jerseys: Raiders, Chargers, Titans, Bills, Patriots, Chiefs, Jets, Broncos

The Raiders Might Be One Of The Worst Teams In The NFL, But Their AFL Throwbacks Are In A League Of Their Own

After a few weeks, we've seen all of the teams wear their throwback AFL jerseys at least once, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the AFL. Which ones are the best, and which ones make you want to gouge your eyes out? Take a look at them, and leave your opinions in the comments.

1. Raiders
This team could make anything look bad, but these simple white jerseys are flat-out awesome. The black trim on the numbers is the icing on the cake.

2. Chargers
The legendary powder-blues are universally known as some of the greatest jerseys ever, in any sport. I actually thought so too, until I saw the Raiders one. The game earlier this year between the Raiders and Chargers, in which both teams wore their old-school unis might have been the best two-team jersey combinations that we'll ever see.

3. Titans
If Kerry Collins (or Vince Young, for that matter) could play like Warren Moon, it would make these uniforms complete. They looked great back in the day, and they still look pretty awesome. Nothing beats the classic oil tower on the side of the helmet.

4. Bills
These hearken back to the days of one Orenthal James Simpson, back when he was known for being one of the best running backs of all time, not as a criminal several times over. The Buffalo on the side, and the general simplicity is what makes these so excellent.

5. Patriots
They probably won more games in 2007 than they did during the entire time that they originally wore these uniforms, but the Pat Patriot logo on the side of the helmet and the now-forsaken red jerseys are outstanding. The white-on-white road jerseys that they wore against the Broncos are nice, too.

6. Chiefs
The helmets are pretty cool, with the Texas silhouette on the side, a nod back to their days as the Dallas Texans. Otherwise, the jerseys are virtually the same as they are today, which is the only reason they're all the way down at #6.

7. Jets
Their old-school "Titans" jerseys are pretty heinous. Sometimes, they remind me of the current Steelers jerseys, which is definitely not a good thing at all.

8. Broncos
There's no hiding the truth. While the Broncos look like the best team out of these 8, they definitely have the worst jerseys, by far. They might be among the worst 3-4 jerseys of all time, along with the Seahawks' lime green versions, and the Eagles' blue and yellow disasters.

How would you rank the old AFL jerseys? Let us know in the comments.

I actually don't mind the Jets throwbacks. It's a nice vintage color combo.

No, the Ravens aren't allowed to even thing about using anything related to the Browns. When they moved, they were detached to all things related to the Browns. The current Browns team has claim to all historical ties.

"The current Browns team has claim to all historical ties."

Oohh...that's a shame.

Technically, I think the Ravens could use old-school Browns unis if the league would approve it.

Hooray! The Raiders are actually at the top of a list that isn't titled "Worst Team in the League," "Least Valuable Franchise in the NFL," "Team with the Craziest Owner in Pro Sports," or "Team with the Fattest and Most Illiterate QB Ever."

I'm totally unbiased, but I actually liked the Broncos unis... ANd the Chargers are by far the best of the bunch

Not too mention the NFl retired the oilers name and colors

The good thinkg about the Broncos jerseys in early 1962 new head coach jack Faulkner had a public burning ceremony in the parking lot of Bears stadium (in 1968 it was re-named Mile Hi). Those are far the worst. But the owners of the Broncos were so cheap in 1960, they got those thinkgs from the defunct Copper Bowl.

Texans are an expansion franchise. Titans moved, so they get the rights.

Them old Broncos uniforms remind me of a chocolate bar gone wrong.

In the sweet name of irony, make those Broncos uniforms go away!

10/13/09   |   mk_donley   |   2554 respect

Best unis in my opinion, Pats, Chargers, Bills, Titans, and Chiefs.
Broncos, gag me with a spoon.

10/13/09   |   Diablorain   |   4425 respect

my favorites are the Raiders and Patriots....the Broncos are Hideous!!!!!!!!wonder who else will have to play in god awful ugy jerseys this season?

10/13/09   |   SassyRed   |   68 respect

Well I for one say that my Broncos should burn those god ugly uniforms, but I guess from I learned on our local news they have to wear them one more time.  I mean what the heck were they thinking back in the dayI have not seen all of the teams throw backs but I have to say that ours are the worst by far, not so much the brown and gold jersey and pants its the socks that drive me crazy. Plus the ref's they look like a orange ice cream bar gone wrong.

10/13/09   |   drn0iswatr   |   731 respect

the Broncos jerseys look like what is on the bottom of my shoe after walking through the backyard for a bit.

10/13/09   |   OoDeviLoO   |   15 respect

Where is "queer eye for the straight guy" when you need them?

10/13/09   |   Jess   |   34444 respect

The Broncos jerseys weren't THAT bad (oh don't get me wrong, they were bad, but...I think as far as jerseys go, the Seahawks have them beat). However...those pants and those socks make me think they belong in the front window of a candy store. Those are just ridiculously hideous.
