The Bills' defense took a huge hit with the loss of Kiko Alonso
He's having surgery to replace his torn ACL, and will miss all of 2014, according to the Bills.
Last year, Alonso was a defensive rookie of the year candidate, leading the Buffalo defense with 159 tackles, two fumble recoveries and 4 interceptions.
Alonso was a force on the Bills defense, and he was a huge difference maker last year. The Bills were hoping for at least the same performance from him this year, and perhaps even a slight improvement.
Instead, they now have a huge hole in the middle of their defense, which was supposed to be their biggest strength.
Manny Lawson and 3rd round pick Preston Brown are expected to pick up the slack in Alonso's absence, but there's going to be a significant drop off in production there, and opposing teams may be able to exploit that.
This is a huge loss for the Bills. We'll see how they manage to overcome it.
