Mandatory Credit: Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY SportsLast night against the Nuggets, Clippers superstar Blake Griffin was whistled for his 16th technical foul of the season, triggering an automatic one-game suspension unless the call is rescinded.

The Clippers are currently in a battle with the Oklahoma City Thunder for the 2nd seed in the Western Conference, and losing Griffin for one of their last two games could prove to be very costly.

The Clippers need to beat both the Nuggets (again) and the Trail Blazers, along with the Thunder losing to the Pistons, and they could end up with the 2nd seed.

Without Griffin, however, that could be a tall order. He's averaging 24 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game, and has been a driving force for the Clippers.

There's still a chance that the technical foul could be rescinded, but it's unlikely. Even if it is, it could prove to be even more costly for the Clippers, because Griffin could end up missing a playoff game if he gets a technical at some point in the playoffs.

If the Clippers lose against either the Nuggets or Blazers, they'll have to resort to being the #3 seed and having a few less games at home in the playoffs. The real question is: Can they beat the Spurs or Thunder anyway, regardless of where they play?
