Covering all the bases from a Sunday in baseball ...
Brooms are all sold out There's a decent chance your team was either swept or doing the sweeping yesterday ...
Angels sweep Yanks LAA 4, NY 3 Same verse as before, bullpen can't find the strike zone. Scott Proctor didn't walk in one run, but two. John Lackey earned his ML leading 8th of the season. Oh and I should mention the Yanks are now 12 1/2 behind Boston. (read: no chance)
Phillies sweep Braves Phi 13, Atl 3 It's official: the Phillies are back in the NL East. But that's not the best news, Ryan Howard appears to be alive and well send two bombs out Sunday. Philly now sits 2 games over .500 and 2 games behind the Braves.
Padres sweep Brewers SD 3, Mil 0 Arguably the biggest statement of the weekend, San Diego put their stamp on one of the best teams in the NL. Most talented, I'm not sure, but the Padres have the best all around staff in baseball at this point. I'm willing to give Peavy the Cy Young right now.
Indians sweep Tigers Cle 5, Det 3 If there were any lingering doubts about Cleveland's viability among the top teams, those should be dashed away. Fausto Carmona didn't have his best outing of the year, but my new favorite pitcher was good enough to get to 6-1 with a 2.89 ERA. Indians now lead the AL Central by 2 games.
Also involved in the May Sweeps: Mets over Marlins, Pirates over Reds, Mariners over Royals, Red Sox over Rangers, and Rockies over Giants.
Have a fine Memorial Day. Please add on to anything I may have missed.(Photo by Donald Miralle/Getty Images)
