Covering all the bases from Monday in baseball ...
Barry Bonds: 0-3, 4 LOB Credit Nationals' rookie pitcher John Lannan, who started this season in Single-A ball, for going after Bonds and winning the battle. Up next: Mike Bascik
Ryan Braun is a Stud If not for all the other milestones we've been tracking this season, we'd be talking about Ryan's emphatic start to his career. He keeps up this pace and Braun might pass A-Rod before he even gets to Barry*. The Brewers' rookie has 21 HR and 54 RBIs in 65 games. The bad news is that Milwaukee lost again on a night where the Cubs couldn't hit anything.
Astros 2, Cubs 1 I don't know what the Cubbies have on Rich Hill, maybe they didn't like his Napoleon Dynamite impersonation, but they've been the opposite of supportive this season: A whopping 2.96 runs a game. One odd baseball statistic that I wasn't aware of until last night, Wandy Rodriguez would be a Hall of Famer if he could only pitch at the Juice Box every outing.
Angels 4, Red Sox 2 Curt Schilling made his return to the mound looking rather svelt but didn't have his best stuff. Good for the Sox he's back, but now the Yankees are one game closer.
Yankees 5, Blue Jays 4 Touched by a visit with David Beckman before the game, “He has a very engaging personality,” Torre said. “He seemed like a very nice guy. He was very gracious to everybody ...” the Yankees inched to within 6 of Boston.
*exaggeration, for those of you who take me too seriously.
