Covering all the bases from a Saturday in baseball ...
A $1.5 million dollar win NYY 9, Pit 3 If you figure he'll get 20 starts, that's the cost of each outing. Just an OK as far as I'm concerned. You do realize this was the Pirates, right? Arguably one of the worst lineups in baseball. Why do you think today was chosen as the start date? That said, he looked good and will get better with each start. Most importantly, the Yankees won. They'll need to see if Selig will credit them with 2 wins for each Roger victory.
Jon Lieber should have more kids Phi 4, KC 0 In 2000, Jon's wife gave birth and he returned in time to throw a CG. Saturday night, he accomplished the same feat after return from the birth of a son. It's not really the CG that's so impressive, it's Lieber getting 11 K's.
When you have Dan Haren, who cares about Zito Oak 6, SF 0 Barry Zito was, will, and will remain one of the most overrated players in the game. He his days, but generally he's average. I like the guy, he's down to Earth and puts baseball in the right perspective. Perhaps that's why he's inconsistent. Sometimes it's just not that important to him. But when you make the money he does, you can't be 6-6.
Guess who's bullpen was credited with a loss? Col 3, Bal 2 Yep.
Santana? Was 3, Min 1 Are we sure this is Johan and not Carlos? Johan Santana, the one who is a guaranteed Cy Young winner should never, under any circumstance lose to the Nats.
Mariners show some staying power Sea 6, SD 5 I'm sure Seattle remains an after thought to most of us in the AL Wild Card race, but we should start taking them seriously. 2 straight wins against the NL's best, that works for me.
Please add on to anything I've left off in the comments. (AP Photo/Bill Kostroun)
