Bob Costas Responds to Barry Bonds
READ MORE:
MLB
After being called a midget that knows jack**** about baseball, Bob Costas didn't need to respond back to Barry Bonds. But boy am I glad he did.
“As anyone can plainly see, I’m 5-6½ and a strapping 150, and unlike some people, I came by all of it naturally,” Costas said Thursday in a telephone interview.

“I’ve actually always had a pretty cordial relationship with Barry,” Costas said. “I have no ill feelings toward him personally. I regard him as one of the greatest players of all time who got an inauthentic boost and then became a superhuman player. I wish him no ill whatsoever.”

“He’s under tremendous scrutiny and some pressure. It’s no big deal,” Costas said. “This is a consequence of doing your job, and I’ve never tried to do my job in any case with the intention of calling attention to myself. I think if people watch the program, they can judge for themselves.”

Hey-ooo. And that is why you have to the love the little midget.

Zing! I was hoping that Costas would take a shot at Bonds in return, and I was not disappointed. I need to add Bob to my list of favorite announcers/experts.

That is an awfully insensitive remark by Bonds!!! Why doesn't someone call HIM out for that? Or is it OK in Baseball as long as it isn't race related?

Classy statemement with just the right amount of attitude by Costas.

Re: Barry Bonds and Bob Costas

Barry, you don't have to play Baseball to know something about Baseball. Bob Costas' thoughtful commentary about sports is appreciated by many, all over the country. Barry has talent. It's beautiful. He could have been a home run champion without steroids. That is part of the tragedy. The rest of the story is about how damaged he is as a man - how he has been failed by his alcoholic Father and, heaven knows, what else. The result is a man who is so disconnected from himself that he, awkwardly, often doesn't make sense when he speaks.

Re: Barry Bonds

Having to contend with jeering fans and their scurrilous slogan filled signs, Barry wants to know, “what did I ever do to you?” He doesn’t know. I do. Barry, you failed yourself and, man, that’s a mirror that hurts to look into. Barry also doesn’t seem to understand why the fans care so much. Reminds me a little of Jose Conseco who didn’t seem to understand why anybody would not take steroids. Barry, we care because while you are playing the game, the game is playing out, symbolically, for the rest of us our life. In nine innings we relive our journey home to ourselves. Nine times we face our hopes, and fears, and our unknown. In the end, win or lose, hopefully, we have completely embodied our experience, and faced the truth of who we are. This is how we triumph over our shortcomings, and that, Barry, is the American dream, so brilliantly condensed in that beautiful baseball.

You failed yourself, Barry, because even though you can connect bat to ball, you can’t connect to yourself. It’s obvious. Looking into your eyes is like looking at the outfield wall. They are blank, and so are the eyes of trauma victims. You display only the self-consuming attitude of desperation. You want your bat, alone, to be your sword of destiny, but that cannot be. The measure of who you are cannot, must not, be measured by the number of your home runs alone. You do not deserve to be in The Hall of Fame because you are unable to triumph over your own corruption, and come into wholeness. You do deserve to be healed of your traumas and wounds, however.

Perhaps you could begin your healing by meditating on the huge amount of karma you have created with Greg Anderson!

That's great.  I would thumb this article, but that would be giving CF the thumb, and not Bob Costas.  The title of this article should be The Midget Strikes Barry Bonds Out.

I forget again, exactly what was the reason Bonds made the comments he did? What did Costas say first? Either way, I can't stand either one of them, never have and never will. It was a nice comeback by Costas, but I still don't like him.

Curt Schilling commented on Costas' show that if Bonds was truly innocent, then he would have sued SOMEONE by now for all of these false accusations that are flying, and/or he would have at least issued some sort of denial. According to Schilling, the lack of those things are basically a silent admission of guilt.

Not sure why Bonds lashed out at Costas instead of Schilling, but Bonds is a pathetic coward, and decided to come back at Costas, instead of responding to someone who he might face in a future game.

Bob Costas is one of the reasons why I can't grasp the concept of sports writers holding votes over Hall of Fame nominees.
