Bobby Petrino Will Reportedly Resign to Become Arkansas Razorbacks Head Coach
I couldn't imagine a scenario where Bobby Petrino's first year as Falcons head coach could have gone any worse. He likely took the job for the chance to work with Michael Vick and hopefully becoming the coach to turn him into a passing threat. That's never transpired and now Petrino has a mess on his hands. Check that, he had a mess on his hands.

Sportscenter is reporting that Petrino will resign from his Falcons post to take over the head coaching job at the University of Arkansas. If true, a tremendous get for the Razorbacks. We've all witnessed the effect his departure had on the Louisville Cardinals and you'd have to assume the challenge of the SEC intrigues him tremendously.

We'll see how this plays out, ESPN hasn't been batting 1.000 with their coaching rumors lately. Your thoughts?

Arkansas can have him and keep him.

I said this when Carr decided to retire, but Michigan owed it to themselves to see if Petrino wanted out of Atlanta.  Turns out he does, and Arkansas actually doesn't look bad at all now for getting rid of Nutt.  How they did it still is horrible, but they actually got an upgrade of a coach.

Petrino+McFadden= Watch Out. That is if McFadden comes back another year.

Now if this is true, there goes Brian Brohm's free NFL job. Not that Atlanta would have drafted Brian but there could have been a good shot at it.

I think that if Michigan was smart, they might try to make a move at Petrino if Petrino REALLY does wanna come back to college football.  I mean, he is a hell of a coach and I gotta think the only reason he went and took the Falcons was because he thought he was inheriting Michael Vick.  Makes sense to me that he should take the Arkansas job and most certainly the Michigan job if they come calling.  I think it will be a HUGE win for whatever team gets Bobby Petrino....that is if he does come back to college football.

I hope Arkansas fans know that they will just be another stop on the Petrino tour.  But, if Michigan grabs him, he may stick around

I guess I hadn't realized that Louisville fans were that angry that Petrino left.

Honestly, it's a relief that he left.  There were always reports of him talking to Auburn or to someone else...and he had the Nick Saban disease..."I'm not going anywhere blah blah blah."

I suppose I can see why that would get old real quick.  I don't think he would ever leave for a different college job unless it was a Michigan, USC, Alabama, etc.  I just think the allure of the NFL got to him, especially considering he was an offensive coordinator at Jacksonville.  Unfortunately for him and the U of L, it was a bad choice.  Luckily for him, he was able to land on his feet.

Anyway, I think he'd back over his own grandmother if she looked at him crosseyed.

Did anyone hear the interview with John Kincade on ESPNEWS just now?  Kincade told it exactly how it is with Petrino...He did not instill discipline at Atlanta (Kragthorpe talked a bit about having to put out "fires" left by Petrino at U of L).  Apparently Petrino has talked to Arkansas for a while now, but has told the fan base that he's totally committed to Atlanta and was in for the long haul.  He has demanded total commitment from his players, yet he is quitting on them before the year is even over.  All of this sounds SO familiar..

If I were Petrino, I would have pulled an about-face and resigned from the Arkansas job as soon as I heard that "hog call". That was the most annoying and obnoxious thing I've heard in a long time.

Is that the first time you have heard it? I went to an Oklahoma/Arkansas basketball game and I thought my ears were going to bleed.

I did not see the Altman PC--but I wonder if they did the same thing and it sent him running!!!  That was nasty!

If McFadden returns, that raises many questions about the Univeristy of Arkansas...how could they have a student that makes such a bad decision???

I feel like I should explain this comment.  He nearly ran over my nephews after my brother-in-law parked in a spot that Petrino believed should have been his.

Sounds like he'll fit right in in the SEC.

I think that the University of Arkansas is getting a great coach and offensive mind but some of the things that transpired last night just didn't seem right.  I mean, he says that he never had any contact with Arkansas until yesterday after the Falcons/Saints game.  Now if there is anyone that believes that, then they are stupid!  The man said there were no conversations with him and it seems to me that if you are gonna make a big decision like that, you would take more time than one day to make that decision.  Plus, why in the HELL would you have a press conference at 11:30 et instead of waiting until the day after (i.e. today) to make that.  Its almost like he is a thief in the night the way he just up and left Atlanta.  Especially the way he hurt the fans, Rich McKay, the coaching staff, and especially Arthur Blank.  After hearing him in the booth on Monday Night Football the other night, it was apparent that Blank had no idea this was gonna happen.  He more or less blindsided him when he could have resigned later the next day or two.

All I can say is that I don't like the move that Petrino did and the way that he did it but he owes a lot of apologies to Arthur Blank and the Atlanta Falcons organization.  I know Arkansas is getting a great offensive mind but he is pretty much inheriting an "Atlanta Falcons-esque" team in Arkansas.  Both starting WRs are gone, McFadden and Felix Jones will probably be gone from the backfield and 5 of the starting 11 players on defense are gone too.  I give it a season or two at Arkansas before he gets frustrated and he is ready to up and leave once again.  I know that he is a great coach and offensive mind, but his integrity has definitely been compromised now.  It will be interesting to see how many recruits he can get to come to Arkansas.  Not sure how he can look a recruit or the parents in the face and truthfully tell them that he will be there for the long haul.  I mean, he couldn't do it at the last two stops he was at.  He signed a 10 year extension with the Louisville Cardinals and left and then a five year deal with the Atlanta Falcons and left.  Not sure how much credibility he will have when going to recruits homes and has to look them face to face...especially the parents as well.
