Bolton Wanderers Chairman thanks football community for support after Muamba’s on-field heart attack

The Chairman of Bolton Wanderers, Phil Gartside has thanked the football community for the support they have shown to Fabrice Muamba. The former Under-21 midfielder collapsed on field after a heart attack during the FA Cup quarterfinal with Tottenham Hotspur.
 
White Hart Lane instantly became a sight of sorrow and disappointment as Muamba was stretchered off the field after being treated for 10 minutes on the pitch. The match was eventually abandoned and Muamba was transferred to the intensive care united of the London Chest Hospital.
 
Ever since, fans and clubs across the world have come out to pay their tribute to the 23-year-old Bolton midfielder. While talking to Sky Sports, Gartside expressed his gratitude for the support shown by the football crowd and clubs.
 
“On behalf of our club, I would like to thank the Premier League, the FA and all the clubs who have been in touch to offer their support,” Gartside said. “This has extended worldwide with FIFA, UEFA and the global footballing family also. I would also like to offer our thanks and deep appreciation to all those at Tottenham Hotspur yesterday and Aston Villa [who cancelled a clash with Bolton scheduled for Tuesday, March 20] for their understanding at this time.”

Gartiside also heaped praise upon the medical staff that have been treating Muamba at the hospital.

“The staff at the London Chest Hospital have been nothing short of exceptional and I would like to thank them all at this on-going critical time,” Gartside expressed. “All Bolton fans who have contacted me personally or the club have been unbelievable. We aspire to be a family and all expressions of support are testimony to the reality of the family club we have at Bolton.”

Recent reports on Muamba have informed that the midfielder is still in critical condition. The next 24 hours have been declared crucial by the medical staff.
