Boston Red Sox Beat The Tampa Bay Rays 4-2 In Game 6, Series Is All Tied Up [2008 MLB Playoffs ALCS]
It's Almost Like We've Seen This Sort Of Thing Before...

The Boston Red Sox stayed around to live another day, and forced a Game 7 in the ALCS against the Tampa Bay Rays by beating them 4-2 in Game 6.

Josh Beckett allowed 2 solo home runs, but otherwise he pitched like Red Sox fans have been accustomed to seeing, and held down the Rays for 5 solid innings.

Kevin Youkilis had a HR and 2 RBI's to jump-start the Red Sox' offense. Hideki Okajima, Justin Masterson and Jon Papelbon combined for 4 no-hit innings. The Sox scored all 4 runs off the guy with the most ridiculous nickname in sports, James "Big Game" Shields... the one who has a grand total of 2 postseason appearances, one of which was a loss in Game 1.

Game 7 will be Sunday at 8:07 pm EST. Jon Lester will pitch for the Red Sox, and he hopes to shake off his bad outing in Game 3. Matt Garza will pitch for the Rays.

Watch out, Phillies. The Red Sox are not to be trifled with.

All that homerism aside, I'll STILL be rooting for the underdog Rays tonight...true, they've never been here before, but they remind me of the '87 Twins, who had never been anywhere, either...
P.S.--  I did say it would go 7 games when I made my original pick, and I'll stand by it, even though I'll be rooting for Tampa, I'm afraid, even short-handed, the Red Sox will find a way to get back to the World Series tonight...

The last thing I want to do is offend a Tampa fan anyone. Warning The video in this link contains excessive profanity and may hurt Tampa fans feelings. If you are a Boston fan you may enjoy it.

Some teams do play better facing elimination I HATE BOSTON, BUT, they are proven champions and they are not bragging if they can do it.

There is bedlam in Tampa. As the fans try to convince
themselves the last two games were a fluke and that Boston
is here on borrowed time the Tampa Rays are saying that it is
just another loss and that game 7 is just another game. You
could not be more wrong than if you didn't  like pizza.

Longoria:                                                                                                                                                         "It's going to be fun, in my opinion; there'll be less pressure on
everyone. We'll throw it out there and have fun. I think there was
more pressure when we were up 3-to-1. There was pressure on
us to end it. Elimination games are always pressure-packed.
You feel you have to win them, and in that situation you start to
press. Now it's back to 0-0, and we'll come out and play the
way we've been playing all year."

Evan, that is why you will struggle tonight. You will come out and
play like you have been playing all year. (and it's been a dandy
year) Boston
won’t. Boston will come at you like a championship
team. There is a tiny, teenie bit of pressure on the Rays and
hopefully, our experience will help us.

Cliff Floyd:                                                                                                                                                     "They're the World Series champs. You've got to take it from
them," "They know how to win. They stay poised in tough
situations. That said, it's going to happen, tonight."

WOW, that’s something I should think about....

Tom Singer, MLB writer:                                                                                                                               The Rays have courted a reputation for resiliency all year. They
dipped into second place on the last day before the All-Star
Game break. They had their division lead shrink to a fraction
with an early-September loss in Boston. They rebounded both
times. But they'd never before hit this kind of wall.

Tampa, good luck little fellas

You know how they have Celebrity Fight Night? I would pay to see Fitzy and The Cowpatty Kid go at it.

"You could not be more wrong than if you were to vote McCain for president."

Then I guess they were right.  Tampa will win tonight.

Everytime the Red Sox played the Rays this season with a chance to get ahead of them, they lost.  Same thing tonight.

I am ecstatic at the fact that, after tonight, I will worry no more if the Sox can get past the Rays fine ballclub and their adoring supportive fans. Good luck Tampa...

Lot of talk these days about the Rex Sox being the new Yankees--mainly because of their payroll. Growing up as a White Sox fan and spending adulthood as a Red Sox fan--and rabid Yankee hater, I have to admit that those hated Yankees, even some of their mediocre teams, always found ways to win that somehow eluded other teams. If the Red Sox are now like the old Yankees in that way, more power to them. A checkbook can't buy guts and pride. Just ask the Steinbrenners.

When the Rays lose, I hope you change your mind. Next year looks really good for your team, and they've already had an extraordinary season. You guys will be fine.

"why did madden pull picther out of the 6th inn in game 5 when they had a 7-0 lead the picther gave up no runs and then pulled him why"

Because when it comes to managing in big games, Maddon couldn't hold Tito's jock.

PLEASE DO NOT JUMP. You are beautiful and you enjoy baseball. These are two very redeeming qualities. The only baggage you have so far is you are a Tampa fan. If the Pilgrims could convert the Indians then we can work on you. Say it with me. Go......Sox.

Pat you didn't tell me we had the president of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on this site? WOW! he has lots of good things to say about the team and it's fans.  I just wonder how he gets thru the doorways in Boston with the inflated opinion he has of the Red Sox?
