Boston Red Sox Versus Tampa Bay Rays Game 2 ALCS Live Thread [2008 MLB Playoffs]
There Should Be A Full House Showing Up To See This Pair Of Aces
If you think this is unbiased, you're mistaken. Just look at the pictures. Yes, it's not only pictures from prior games, it's a prediction for this one:

Game 2 of the ALCS will be Josh Beckett taking the mound for the Red Sox against Scott Kazmir of the Rays. The Red Sox won the first game 2-0, and are looking to continue their playoff dominance on the road. They are 3-0 so far away from Fenway Park, and have pulled off amazing turnarounds against teams that had beaten up on them in the regular season, and at venues where they were unsuccessful in the regular season. They were 1-8 against the Angels, and beat them in 4 games. They were 1-8 in the regular season at Tropicana Field, and opened the ALCS with a win there.

57% of FanIQ are mistakenly picking the Rays to win this one. I am among the 43% who will be correct, when the Red Sox win 3-1.

Chat it up here, or on the game page. Go Sox!

Is MLB going to make that only a solo homer...so you, the Almighty Pat's prediction holds up?
Evan Longoria will become one those elite hitters, who, if you make one pitching mistake in an at-bat will make you pay.

Both of these pitchers are just getting lit up.  As good as they both are, it's surprising.

Is it me? or did Francona leave Beckett in too long?...or did he know that, well, what good would it do to bring in someone worse than him?....I still respect Beckett...he's just off and the Rays hitters patience was good

One run game, we need this to be an easy 1-2-3 inning and then get back to hitting some more home runs

Okajima looked good. Quality outing by him, which is just what he needed after some recent shaky ones. Just need a run here, and Papelbon can come finish it off.

Upton badly misjudged that ball. Should have been the 3rd out, ended up getting the GRD. Too bad about the uncharacteristic K by Ellsbury.

With everything else that has gone against history and trend...It would be typical for Papelbon to give up his first ever post-season run

Can't get them all.

It's amazing how you continue to deny the impact of playoff experience, even when it has been so apparent throughout these 2 games.

It would also be typical for him to shut them down, and for Papi to hit a HR in the 10th.

Where's DrCommento when you need him? Price is looking good so far, unless throwing strikes is a prerequisite to quality pitching.

Nope, no experience is needed for the playoffs. It doesn't help at all, right?

I think the Rays were handing them out to fans on the way in to these games.  There would be no noise otherwise.

Is it possible for a game to be a slugfest AND a pitcher's duel?

Because that would be this game. First 5 innings, 14 runs scored.

Next 5+ innnings, zero runs so far.

Freaking crazy...

Poor throw by Drew. A good one would have nailed him and ended the inning. But it was weak, practically rolling in, and it was off line. This one looks real good going back to Boston, though. The Red Sox have their true ace pitching game 3, and they have 3 games at home, where they've been dominant. A 1-1 split on the road works every time.

That was ignorant...again these cowbells were a part of LAST SEASON's schtick/giveaways....

Drew was purposely blocked by Iwamura, who lined himself up with Drew as he caught it and didn't move. Again that inexperience showing....oh WAIT... Iwamura has played baseball all his life (incl the playoffs in Japan) just like every other player out there..
Of course, Drew knowing that arguably the fastest player in the majors was on third and that he had to make a perfect throw had nothing to do with him missing it???
Lester will be tough but if I were Francona I'd throw Matsuzaka in 4.
Maddon held onto Perez until the moment was just right...could've put him in defensively after Zobrist pinch hit for Gross.....Every Rays fan here thought that's what he would do..but nope that inexperience made him hold onto him until he could use him as a pinch-runner

"Lester will be tough but if I were Francona I'd throw Matsuzaka in 4."

I agree. His control was questionable in game 1, but there's no doubt that he was effective.

And say what you want, but the experience factor is what got the Sox back into this game in the first place, after Beckett practically handed it to the Rays. And in Fenway, it will continue to provide the spark that they need.
