Boston Red Sox Versus Tampa Bay Rays Game 7 ALCS Live Thread [2008 MLB Playoffs]
This One Is For All The Marbles

After a thrilling series so far, the Red Sox and Rays will meet up in St. Petersburg at the Trop for the deciding game. Red Sox ace Jon Lester (16-6, 3.21) will take the mound against Matt Garza (11-9, 3.70) for the Rays.

The Red Sox won Game 1, but the Rays came back strong with 3 straight victories. The Red Sox followed that with one of the all-time greatest comebacks in postseason history, as they came back from down 7-0 to win Game 5. They won Game 6 behind Josh Beckett, and now look to win their 10th straight ALCS elimination game under Terry Francona.

55% think that the resilient Rays can bounce back and win this one to move on to the World Series. I disagree, and I'm predicting the Red Sox to win in a blowout, 11-2.

Chat it up here, or on the game page. Enjoy.

Why do the pick-ems still favor Tampa? FanIQ must have a lot of:
  • Mis-clickers, clicked on the wrong team.
  • People who haven't been paying attention to this series.
  • Too many Red Sox haters, and
  • Too many people thinking the Rays will somehow cut off this momentum.
How can a brickwall stop a wrecking ball swinging at it at 50 MPH? Correct answer. IT CAN'T.

Boston wins tonight.

Funny you should use the word delusional then say that the Sox are about to blow the game wide open.

I'd be surprised if there were a total of 6 runs scored in this game.

Speaking of delusional...

Garza has given up a total of one hit, that being Dustin's solo HR in the 1st, how can you possibly determine there's an offensive explosion in the works for the BoSox?

These guys really need to shut up about the pitch count. Its Game 7 of the ALCS, do you really think they are just going to shut Garza down once he hits 100? All that pitch count crap is for the regular season to make sure they have enough for these moments/games. Even then I couldn't care less about it..

120-130 pitches, on at least 5 days rest, for a 24 year old kid? Please.

Pitchers for 100 years could go forever without constant watch of number of pitches they threw, and every 3 days they were just fine going out over and over again.

Yea, I get it, it's a different game now, where teams invest so much in guys and they want to protect them. But to say that a guy is not able to throw it 150 times in the most important game of his life because his arm might be a little tired by the end of it is absolutely ridiculous.

No, I don't.

Who's to say nerves is not as much of a factor as fatigue is? You're not Matt Garza to know how he's feeling or what he's feeling...it could be multiple factors, not solely fatigue.

Yea, pitchers now don't go 100+ as often anymore, but to say once he's over 100, his arm just suddenly doesn't want to work anymore, is a ridiculous claim. He's still getting outs, and still in the lead as I type this. He's doing his job.

did i ever say his arm will not work anymore? I said his K-Zone will weaken. He threw a snot-load more balls. More batters have been getting on base. Sure, his nerves might be tweaking, but to also say someone won't get tired throwing 110+ pitches, plus throws to the bases, and running around to get the ball won't make you tired is also ridiculous.

Sorry, defending a similar argument with a friend also, got the claims mixed up.

Obviously; the man is tired. But again, biggest game of his life, I'm sure he, and the pitching coach, along with Maddon can agree that if he can still get the outs, even less than 100%, he should not be taken out just because his pitch count his higher than normal.

Along with the Aybar cushion - hopefully it can buy Garza atleast a start in the next inning.

In all fairness, I can understand the slide to take out the SS.  With Ortiz running at first, you have to do your job to give the next batter an at-bat.

He should have realized he was closer to the bag than normal, though.  You've got to take a quick peek back to see where the ball is played to know whether you need to take out the SS or not.

Gotta give the next batter a chance, though - and that happens by doing whatever you can to get a slow-running Ortiz to first.

Man, you talked a LOOOOT of crap this series: Face it the Rays overcame the greatest odds in the history of professional sports in North America from March 31 until right now. They were the longest of long shots EVER. The Red Sox have every advantage, from money spent to money earned. From supposed "experience" to mainsteam media backing(ESPN).
It's yuppie fans of the Red Sox that give their hardcore base such a bad name. My sister has never stepped foot in the state of Massachusetts and she sits at home and roots  from some sorry ass team that she's been to two spring training games of rather than go to the Buccaneers game, a team she has loved her WHOLE life.

Actually, shouldn't be any other way. The Rays are now firmly entrenched in the psyche of both the Red Sox and the Yankees. Cashman and Epstein now have to account for the Rays and build to beat THE RAYS, not each other. I'm not counting out the Blue Jays either...This is going to be one incredible division for years to come......if the Yankees can catch up that is..

$2000 might get you Standing Room.  In 2007 I saw pairs of $12 face bleachers going for $3200.  This goes back to my statement about how the real Sox fans are watching the games on TV at places like the Beerworks and Cask & Flagon and the well-to-do celebrities that saw "Fever Pitch" one time get the tickets to the game.

Fever Pitch sucks by the way, but that's another story for another thread.

We wouldn't have made the playoffs if Manny were still here.  We wouldn't have gotten the Manny that's been tearing up NL pitching.  We would have gotten "Operation Shutdown" "Boston hates me" "My knees hurt" "Oh and about those two club options on my contract....." Manny.

Nailed the under, but Vegas likes the Phillies odds of taking  game 1 in Tampa. I actually agree with that assessment I just thought Vegas would give a little more love to the American League club playing in their home dome.

I think I like the Phillies and the over 7.5 for game 1.

could happen, unless they pull a Rockies like last year. All that time off plastered on a ton of rust on their bats and never really got it going in the whole series. Of course, the Phillies this year are a much much better squad than the 07 Rockies, so i don't expect them to crumble easily. This will be a long series.

By no means am I to be confused as a Sox fan myself, but I think you're taking this a bit too far. There's heckling, which was what you were doing in your first 2-3 posts, but now its in the general area of straight up unsportsmanship and stupidity.

That and the fact your posts always seems to be jumbled sentences put together with a little bit of ".............." to space it through. This just simply implies you aren't intelligent enough to attempt trash talking if you are not intelligent enough to even put a sentence or two together.

Game 7 is over with, on to the World Series; and as you so nicely pointed out, the BoSox are not a part of. Ya done?

I'm still looking for this whining that mcraig306 is talking about... can we see some examples, please? Because the only person still whining/talking crap is... well... mcraig306.

"the rest of the nation is extremely tired of your whining & crying about this, that & the other being unfair.waaa,waaaa,waaa...get over it already"

Who the hell are you talking to? Where are Sox fans whining and crying about anything being unfair?

well, that wasn't whining or complaining about unfairness, it was the usual heckles and mouthing. LOL. I complained about the lack of offense, and of course i was worried and nervous... but who wasn't? That was a different feeling then back in game 5. Thanks for the acknowledgment though, i just hope i didn't go too far in my little rants here and there. I've been really trying to keep my blood below boiling temperature. LOL!
