Boston Red Sox Vs Tampa Bay Rays Game 4 ALCS Live Thread [2008 MLB Playoffs]
Red Sox Will Need To Buckle Down And Knuckle Up Against The Rays

Game 4 ALCS: Tampa Bay Rays @ Boston Red Sox
Andy Sonnanstine (13-9, 4.38) vs Tim Wakefield (10-11, 4.13)
Rays lead the series 2-1.

Some say this is a must win for the Red Sox. However, the eternal optimist in me says that if the Sox lose this one, they have the Rays just where they want them. That being said, how many times can the Sox come down from a big hole in the ALCS and go on to win the World Series? To be honest, I'd rather not find out. Down 0-3 in 2004, and down 1-3 in 2007, let's just win this one and save a few people the heart attacks.

53% of people on the greatest website in the world are picking the Rays to go up 3-1 in the Series. Since my last four live thread picks haven't worked out all that well(Patriots, Dodgers, Red Sox, Giants), I'm going to hope that the trend continues, and I'm picking the Rays to win, 74-3.

If you're watching, discuss the game here or on
the game page. Enjoy.

Well... my predictions have gone 0-4 in my last 4 live threads... let's hope my streak continues.

I doubt that's what Wakefield had in mind.  3-0 already, yikes.

How bad is the Boston media going to torture Tito if this keeps up? I really feel bad for him.
3-0 Rays

Right now it doesn't look like he's even going to get out of this inning.

Between pretending that this is the first time anyone has ever seen a knuckleball and acting like Masterson in long relief is a shock, this announcing crew is an insult to the intelligence of the average fan.

Pat, during Game 1 of the ALDS! I started listening to our local guys...those guys are BRUTALLY AWFUL. Completely ignorant.

Thats about as good of a start as the Rays could hope for.  Now their pitching needs to show up.

In honor of the 3rd HR given up by Tim Wakefield, FanIQ will be down for approximately one hour, from 9pm-10pm EST.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Enjoy the game, unless you're a Red Sox fan.

And yes, I'm serious.

Who knew Pat, you're prediction is looking pretty good right now..

Sorry to report this guys, but we have a site down time from 9pm to 10pm tonight to spruce some stuff up. If it wasn't tonight, it would have been tomorrow, or the next day or the next day, etc. So apologies, but it should just be one hour.

How ticked off is Fox gonna be when they could've had a Boston/LA  World Series and they might end up with a Philadelphia/Tampa Bay Series?

I know it's a little late since the site was down for a bit, but it was disgusting to hear these announcers ramble on.

They sat there for 5 minutes talking about how Francona went with Masterson instead of Delcarmen because Masterson was able to warm up faster. No, no, no, no, no. That had absolutely NOTHING to do with it. They needed innings, and Masterson has been a starter his whole career. THAT's why they brought him in, NOT because he could warm up faster. These guys are morons.

For the record, no matter what happens in the rest of this series, one thing is true:

Anything that DrCommento has predicted correctly is a result of his Rays homerism, not because he has any clue what he is talking about, as evidenced by him questioning Kotsay and Youkilis' defensive abilities at 1st and 3rd, respectively.

I'm getting way ahead of where we are now and quite possibly jinxing the Rays, but if the Rays get to the World Series would there be a more ridiculous Cinderella story ever?

Hey, I know you are way out in HI, but media is everywhere...What have you heard and what is your prediction on what happens with Youkilis, contract wise?

Edit I found it: Arb eligible for '09 and I think '10

Pat...you were pretty close on the prediction.

Impressive.

Sorry - I couldn't resist.  Not that I feel all that sorry for you with all your playoff victories and World Series rings in my lifetime.....

Plus, the Red Sox have proven they can dig themselves out of a whole.

I haven't heard anything yet, but it seems to me that Youkilis is exactly the kind of guy that the Sox would want to hold on to. He'll get a huge payday, probably in the area of $12-15M per year, at least 4 years, probably closer to 6. He has played the last 4 years on 1-year contracts, so he'll probably be looking for the security of a long term deal, and I can't imagine the Sox not rewarding him. Still young, immensely talented, and willing to do anything to help the team. Can't go wrong there.

I gotta  chime in here , those guys on tbs SUCK! The sox are down 3-1 to the Rays, but remember one things Rays fans , my INDIANS were up 3-1 last ALCS AND WE LOST THE FINAL 3 GAMES !That all said ,and no disrespect to my red sox frinds, GO RAYS AND NEXT YEAR, GO INDIANS !

To answer my absence i did some overtime today at work so i didn't get out until 7:30. Now, i'm going to chip in my 2 cents. Here's what i think the Sox are doing:

A. They are letting the Rays get all their runs in now, because the next part of this series they won't even score a THIRD of what they've scored so far. [31 first 4 games].

B. They are going to enjoy this day off, because once Daisuke gets on the mound it's back to swinging at air for the Rays.

C. 2004. 2007. Red Sox love digging holes and adding pressure to themselves in order to get into World Series-mode. Same thing here. it's so obvious. They are pulling the same game 1-4 action they did in both series. Didn't i say deja vu during game 3? Red Sox give their opponents false hopes. They allow themselves to fall into deep holes, only to add to their resume of victims, since they are the best team in sports to comeback in postseason series. Do i think they can win this series being down 1-3? Well... looking at how this feels and looks almost like last year, YES.

it would be a mediocre world series, and the MLB ratings and profits from it will be lower than what the MLB investors want. That's the Cinderella story people don't like except for Tampa fans... and Philly i guess too.

instead of smart-a$$ remarks, continuing to "try" and bash me, YES. Someone did ask me where i was, and what my excuse was for the Sox losing, so stop lashing at me anytime you get a chance, and read the dam* thread first. You seriously need to stop your crap towards me.

Just to save you a scroll bar, and a few seconds anyways:

"hey where is chris? what happen to the sox what did i say , sox cannot hang with the rays, hey chris what is your excuse now lets hear it..........  is boston still going to win in 6 we will see. later go rayssssssssssssssssssssssssssss."

Your welcome. - and it is a thread for ANYONE, might i also add, whether you like me or not. I've been improving and your attempts to make me look stupid like i talked and acted last year, i am not. No comments being a sore-loser, bombing fans, or whatever. Those days are done. I'll leave the trash talk for the team, game, and predictions- the boundaries where FanIQ allows and even PROMOTES.

*edit- correct spelling

Soooooo are you saying that, uh, the Red Sox are planning this? Last I checked, no team liked to dig themselves in a hole to see if they can get back out.....I also don't think that the are really "letting" them do anything.

Seriously this is not your average series deficit for the Sox.  The Rays are killing them in fielding, batting, pitching.  I believe the Red Sox have overcome crazy odds to win but if you dont think the Rays can win just one more game out of this series your odds are weighted by blind faith.  This series happening during the current political and economic state of the country will receive better ratings than most think.  Who doesn't want to see the under rated, over achieving, working class Rays team win the prize?  Red Sox fans should understand this especially since the Red Sox have always had a working class team and fan base.....untill the curse was lifted and they became loved by all.  The Rays story isn't cinderella it is simply a display of triumph based purely on heart and perfectly played baseball by a bunch of guys that had something like 50,000 : 1 odds at the start of the season for a world series win.
