The 2008 Beijing summer Olympics are around the corner and all the countries of the world are gearing up for 3 months of fun and games. well all except for one Tibet. If you know the history of this tiny nation considered the ceiling of the world and home to the most peaceful people on earth the Buddhists you should be disgusted by what is occurring as i write and as you read this. for the past few weeks the people of Tibet have risen up against not only the oppressive chinese government but all the countries that support them. the Tibetan people have been oppressed for years by the chinese government which claims this independent nation as a part of their own. the chinese for the past few dozen years have systematically committed cultural genocide. they have allowed the chinese people move into Tibet and have supported them with money to build an economy to benefit the chinese government. the chinese government have given these people money to build, sell, rape, and pillage the lands of Tibet while they have relegated the native Tibetans to being second class citizens. the chinese have basically become an occupying force that is doing what it can to make sure they have access of the numerous amounts minerals that Tibet sits on (sound familiar??) so why are the nations of the world allowing this to happen? why are the nations of the world allowing the beacon of world peace and harmony the Olympics to be held in the worlds largest communist country(the USA boycotted the Russian Olympics) and the worlds largest offender of human rights??? how can the USA a nation that claims to care so much for the world and its people sit back and allow its athletes perform on this despicable stage? the answer is easy, we as Americans care more for cheap materialistic products than the well being of humans we will never meet or see. china offers the USA cheap labor, cheap materials, hence cheaper clothing, cheaper electronics (look at your computer it was probably assembled in China). we as American sports fans and more importantly as Americans should at the least show our solidarity to the people of Tibet and turn off our TVs or change the channel when the Olympics begin. Give these Olympics the lowest ratings they have ever had and show our corporate giants that we refuse to let you get rich working with china. Maybe just maybe even this little bit of a loss of money to our corporations will get them to push for changes the world over...ok i doubt it will but at least you will know you did what you could to try...and in the end that is all that matters.
