So far this year, Brad Ziegler has been tremendous for the Oakland Athletics. The rookie middle reliever started off his career with 39 1/3 scoreless innings. That's over 4 GAMES worth of shutout pitching performance. It's an MLB record to start off a career, and it also became the AL rookie record for most consecutive scoreless innings, as well. He's been so good, blogging genius Joe Posnanski made up a stat called the "Ziegler Number".But last night, Ziegler finally showed evidence of mortality, giving up an RBI double to BJ Upton. The run proved to be costly, as the Rays went on to win 7-6.
Jake Peavy and the Padres snapped the Brewers' 8-game winning streak. Peavy went 7 innings, striking out 8 and only giving up 1 run, and the Padres beat the Brewers 3-2. The Padres scored all 3 of their runs in the 7th inning off of Brewers starter Ben Sheets, who had pitched very well until that point.
